Jaguars draft Sheldon Day In Round 4

April 30, 2016 by BJ Konkle

Sheldon Day was a formidable defensive lineman and even more cherished leader during his tenure at Notre Dame. Back in the 2011-2012 recruiting cycle, Day was a four star prospect (per 247sports composite ranking), and was ranked the 111th best prospect in the country. Day was an early enrollee, which helped make him an early contributor in his freshman year where he saw action in all 13 games accounting for 23 tackles (13 solo) and 2 sacks. In his sophomore season, Day played in 11 games ...

Crist’s Advice for Late Round Picks: “Enjoy Every Second”

April 6, 2016 by andrewwinn

Dayne Crist's dream since childhood was to play in the NFL, so the former Notre Dame quarterback wrestled with balancing reality with ambition during the lead-up to the 2013 draft. "I was a late-round projection at best," Crist said Tuesday from his Los Angeles office. "You kind of cynically play the game like, 'Oh, you know. It's not going to happen. It's not going to happen,' to not get your hopes up. But at the same time, I mean, you're really hoping your name gets called, and that's ...

Notre Dame Football, The Organization – Part 2

March 23, 2016 by Fresno Domer

If you haven’t read Part 1 yet, do that now. In Part 2, we’re comparing numbers. To start, how has Notre Dame compared on the recruiting trail to its direct market competitors? (In Part 1 we defined the market as Ohio State, Michigan, Stanford and USC) Using 247sports.com composite team rankings, here are the ranks for each recruiting class: * Stanford only signed 13 players in 2013. I think the rankings draw out what we all probably thought to be true: Notre Dame and Stanford are peers; ...

Leaving Early: Holding Players to a Higher Standard

January 5, 2016 by Bayou Irish

This is one of those pieces you write after thinking too much about a topic. In the moments after Jaylon Smith's knee injury, speculation turned, a little sickeningly, to whether or not his injury meant he would "come back." Leading up to the Fiesta Bowl, Jaylon was a lock to go in the first round of the NFL Draft. But, as a junior, to do so, he would have to "leave early." "Leaving early," when applied to the student-athlete, means "to leave without a degree." While plenty of Notre Dame ...

Only One Notre Dame Draft Pick–Should We Worry?

May 4, 2015 by Ryan Ritter

As andrewwinn mentioned in his daily Morning Roundup, some eyebrows were raised with Ben Koyack was the only Notre Dame player selected in the 2015 NFL Draft--and in the seventh round at that. While some within ND fandom grew concerned about what this meant for the current talent in the Brian Kelly era, some outside of it saw a golden opportunity to take a lazy potshot at the Irish as the draft wound down: https://twitter.com/SBNationCFB/status/594598544507469824 Now, there's the obvious ...

Happy Mother’s Day!

May 11, 2014 by Lisa

As we gather with our families today to celebrate our mothers, I not only reflect on what my own mother has done for me over the years through her love and sacrifice ... but I also reflect on all that Our Lady has done for me. I think about who I am today as a person, and how much of that is due in part to the time I spent in the shadows of Our Lady on top of the Dome. I grew, changed and developed into the woman I am today as a result of the not only my studies but also the experiences that I ...

Friday Roundup: The “Back to Business” Edition

January 17, 2014 by Ryan Ritter

After a nice solid holiday break from work, a bit of serious writing here (and non-serious writing like the Roundups), a trip out to the BCS title game (post coming soon), catching up from a load of work at the day job, and completely failing at trying to host a Google+ Hangout, it's time to get back into the swing of things. So yes, that means it's time to get the Friday Roundups going again in 2014. Now, unfortunately, I don't have anything particularly witty, funny, or really anything ...
