HLS Recap: Superweapon Malfunction

October 26, 2020 by Ryan Ritter

Wait...a Notre Dame/Pitt game can be...fun?! What madness is this?! After witnessing a game that WE WILL NEVER MENTION AGAIN, this was quite a nice bounce-back for the Irish. The offense got right and Clark Lea put together another defensive masterpiece. Meanwhile, the Big Ten officially started their season, meaning Shane and I give some initial thoughts to the madness that included an improbable Indiana upset and a Rutgers win. Also featured this week: another ref bailout for Auburn, ...

My Early Prediction For Next Year

January 9, 2017 by Jimmy Grant

I was happy to turn the page on the new year if nothing else than to turn the calendar on one of the worst years of Notre Dame football that I can remember. Starting on New Year’s Day of 2016 and throughout the season it was seemingly one bad moment after another. Now with the national title playing out tonight, our long Notre Dame nightmare can end. Or can it? Since the end of this season, there have numerous coaching changes. When the Irish tee it up on opening day next year, the ...

After Last Night, I See Only Four “Likely Wins” Left

September 18, 2016 by Jimmy Grant

We can now confidently conclude that the Texas loss was no aberration. It was not the result of a hostile crowd, an outmatched-but-inspired Texas team or some fixable defensive errors. Notre Dame is a deeply flawed team this year; last night confirmed that. It was almost hard to watch the Irish make huge errors on special teams, continue to play defense with the density of Swiss cheese and make questionable coaching decisions in a game they absolutely had to win. There was seemingly no ...

Good Fridays w/Padre: Lost in Translation

September 16, 2016 by Father Sorin

The Agricultural College of the State of Michigan is coming to town for a football game. Well, that was their first name; but they soon changed it to State Agricultural College. Realizing that this was dangerously vague – how would the students know which state’s agricultural college they were attending – the name was tightened up to Michigan Agricultural College. But there’s so much more to Michigan than growing cherries and Christmas trees; so the name was elaborated to Michigan State College ...

Predictions: Let’s Take a Leap Against Sparty

September 16, 2016 by Ryan Ritter

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OD380XDs-NY This week, the predictions are a far happier place. Winning fixes everything. Except for CBS Detroit taking down the video that we were going to use this week. This is the 10th anniversary of Mike Valenti's MAKE PLAYS rant, so we thought it was going to be perfect. Poor IrishRoo hosted a video of this rant, complete with highlights and hilarious pictures spliced in, for over five years. CBS Detroit apparently just discovered the internet on ...

Key Matchups Against Michigan State

September 16, 2016 by Steve Price

In one of the featured college football games this week, the #12 Michigan State Spartans will make the short trip to South Bend to take on the #18 Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Both teams see this game as an opportunity to add a notable, significant win to their postseason resume. For the Spartans, a win essentially guarantees them a top-ten ranking in next week’s polls, especially with #2 Florida State vs. #10 Louisville and #3 Ohio State vs. #14 Oklahoma also on this week’s schedule. For ...

Looking Back at ND-MSU ’66: A Tie to Win

September 15, 2016 by Jimmy Grant

The “Era of Ara” was off and running as the Irish entered the 1966 season. 1964 had featured a Notre Dame team that came with a “game changing call” of winning the national championship at USC in Ara Parseghian’s first season. 1965 resulted in a 7-2-1 finish, with a late season loss to Michigan State as the Spartans would share the national championship that season with Alabama. The Irish entered the 1966 season ranked #6 and would eventually grab the #1 ranking after a convincing 38-0 win ...
