Only One Notre Dame Draft Pick–Should We Worry?

May 4, 2015 by Ryan Ritter

As andrewwinn mentioned in his daily Morning Roundup, some eyebrows were raised with Ben Koyack was the only Notre Dame player selected in the 2015 NFL Draft--and in the seventh round at that. While some within ND fandom grew concerned about what this meant for the current talent in the Brian Kelly era, some outside of it saw a golden opportunity to take a lazy potshot at the Irish as the draft wound down: https://twitter.com/SBNationCFB/status/594598544507469824 Now, there's the obvious ...

Happy Mother’s Day!

May 11, 2014 by Lisa

As we gather with our families today to celebrate our mothers, I not only reflect on what my own mother has done for me over the years through her love and sacrifice ... but I also reflect on all that Our Lady has done for me. I think about who I am today as a person, and how much of that is due in part to the time I spent in the shadows of Our Lady on top of the Dome. I grew, changed and developed into the woman I am today as a result of the not only my studies but also the experiences that I ...

Defending the Option: Who Takes Over for Te’o?

October 24, 2013 by Ryan Ritter

Before the Irish started their 2012 season against Navy, I had a detailed post describing how Bob Diaco runs Notre Dame's defense against an option attack. In short, Diaco throws the 3-4 away for such games and switches to a more traditional 4-3 look. The catch though, was that Diaco had another wrinkle in the assignment football that you usually see in the option: Manti Te'o. To refresh, here's how ND started to assign players to defend the option after the 2010 disaster in the ...

Know Thyself, Know Thy Enemy: Linebacker

August 13, 2013 by Bayou Irish

Linebacker. Anyone who's attended Notre Dame, or SMC, or Holy Cross, or gone to a game, has a handful of blurry memories of The 'backer, which is why its omission from the this list is a scandal of...what? OH! Nevermind... LINEBACKER: THE IRISH Manti Te'o won every award available to a linebacker, save one, last season, thereby leaving behind giant, Hawaii'an shoes to fill. With no disrespect intended to Carlo Calabrese, or Dan Fox, or Danny Spond, Prince Shembo is my pick for this piece ...

Ranking the Irish Roster: Tex’s Top 25

July 22, 2013 by Ryan Ritter

Every year, Keith Arnold over at Inside the Irish does an annual ranking of the top 25 players on the Notre Dame roster. This year marks the second year that I have been able to contribute and, this time around, I wanted to give a break down of my rankings. Thankfully, I don't have to justify ranking a kicker #1 (NEVER FORGET) or leaving our starting QB off the top 25 list (NEVER FORGET THIS AS WELL). So without further ado, let's get to the rankings. ...

Will the Center Hold? A Spring Game Analysis

April 24, 2013 by Bayou Irish

The most important question facing the Irish is not "who will replace Manti Te'o?" Or "who will replace Tyler Eifert?" Clearly, as the 2013 Blue Gold game proved, the answer to either question is "Louis Nix, III." In fact, as Tex established yesterday, Irish Chocolate may be our answer in short yardage situations on the offensive side of the football, too. Removing my tongue from my cheek, though, I would suggest to you, our loyal reader, that the most important question facing the Irish going ...

Tuitt ND’s Newest Road Runner

September 5, 2012 by Twibby

Despite the departure of Aaron Lynch and some depth issues, Notre Dame’s defensive line was expected to be one of the team’s strongest position groups in 2012. While the Irish will not face personnel and option plays similar to Navy’s the rest of the season, it is hard not to be very pleased with the performance of Kapron Lewis-Moore, Louis Nix, Kona Schwenke, Stephon Tuitt and the rest of the D-line after shutting down the Midshipmen in Dublin. Outside of Tuitt’s touchdown (we’ll get to that ...
