It's an annual tradition that puts my name in between Pete Sampson and Tim O'Malley: Inside the Irish's countdown of the top 25 players on the Irish Roster. HLS was once again asked to be a part of thirteen Notre Dame reporting outlets to vote and I was happy to once again represent our little corner of the internet. Now that Douglas Farmer has unveiled the consensus top 25, much like last year, I was ready to defend my picks and hot ranking takes...except I don't think I really need ...

Defensive “Change” Must Come, One Way Or Another
"To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often." - Winston Churchill. Much has been discussed, written, and analyzed of the 50-47 loss Texas handed Notre Dame this past Sunday. Many have called for change among the defensive coaching staff as it relates to the 50 points a young Texas team hung on the Irish defense. Ironically, the change that is being clamored for is due to the inability to do just that - change. In the ever evolving landscape of today's college football, ...
HLS Review: The 2016 ND Insider Football Preview
The South Bend Tribune's 96-page preview of Notre Dame's football team is an invaluable resource for the Irish fan looking to get informed before the 2016 football season kicks off Sept. 4. Mike Vorel wrote the magazine's cover story, "Avoiding A Split Decision," on the quarterback competition between redshirt sophomore DeShone Kizer and redshirt senior Malik Zaire. Vorel interviewed former Texas head coach Mack Brown, former Notre Dame quarterbacks Joe Theismann and Brady Quinn and ESPN's ...
Four Irish Footballers Turning 21 During Fall Camp
Perhaps you've heard of the "beer mile," where participants drink a full-sized beer and then run a quarter mile four times over. It's a competitive event, sure, but not one I'd suggest doing during the hot August heat in South Bend, Ind. Fall camp under Brian Kelly usually opens in the first week of August, which is great if you're not happening to reach legal drinking age soon thereafter. So let's pour one out for senior TE Durham Smythe, junior RB Justin Brent, junior S Drue Tranquill and ...
ND Football Supports Fundraiser To Prevent Child Abuse
Sixteen Notre Dame football players signed autographs and met community members as part of a fundraiser Thursday for Prevent Child Abuse St. Joseph County. The meet-and-greet was part of a four-day event called Roofsit, which is in its 20th year. It's the brainchild of two U93 DJs who wanted to help abuse victims. This year, their on-air marathon and fundraiser is happening at Martin's Super Market in Granger. Players who participated were: QBs DeShone Kizer (#14), Montgomery VanGorder ...
Freshman Reveal Jersey Numbers
With Notre Dame's summer classes commencing last Monday, 18 freshman have now officially joined the Irish football team. All have already picked their numbers, with some announcing them through social media. Here's the rundown: #12 QB IAN BOOK: Book sported #11 in high school, which is currently sported by redshirt sophomore running back Justin Brent. Book said last Tuesday that he'll be wearing #12, which was most recently worn by fellow quarterback Brandon Wimbush. Wimbush, a sophomore, ...
Signature Moves: Jalen Elliott
Jalen Elliott is a talented wide receiver whose skills were hidden because he played quarterback for L.C. Bird High School in Chestfield, Va. The Irish want the 6-foot-1-inch teenager for their secondary. Tim Prister, analyzing the 185-pound commit for Irish Illustrated, praised Elliott's athleticism: Transitions in and out of breaks/turns smoothly. Seems comfortable in a backpedal for a player who spent the majority of his time at quarterback during his junior campaign. Shows quality ...
