A Notre Dame Football Blog
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... ...okay, so it'll be tomorrow on a football field on the west coast... Episode XII THE IRISH AWAKEN It is a dark time for all Notre Dame fans. The Fighting Irish have lost three games in a row for the second time in the Brian Kelly era. Turnovers, missed field goals, botched holds, and injuries have plagued the Irish. With their backs against the wall, the Irish travel west to face their long-time rivals, SOUTHERN CAL, and to achieve the ...

I'm not even sure where exactly to start with the mess that was Notre Dame's loss to Northwestern. Typing "Notre Dame's loss to Northwestern" doesn't even make sense to me. The Irish lost and gave up 43 points to a team that hasn't even cracked 30 all season. Iowa blew these guys out. But here we are in what I consider the worst loss since I walked on to campus in 2003. Oh sure, we've lost to worse teams, but those ND teams were objectively terrible. While this team isn't ...
The IBG is back once again and getting back to the normal weekly schedule. This weekend, Notre Dame is in a fight for their playoff lives in a top ten matchup on the road. Sound familiar? So it's time for representatives from NDNation, UHND.com, The Fighting Irish Blog, and the godfather of the IBG, The Subway Domer, to put Navy to bed and take a look at what's ahead. Let's get to it. My question: Based on how the rankings this week, do you feel any differently about a too-close-for ...
On November 1, 1913 Notre Dame established the forward pass as a legitimate offense in college football. Its purpose was to make the quarterback the most feared player on the field and propel the team to greatness. They succeeded. Today, the Navy calls him the guy that embarrasses them every year*. The Fighting Irish call him.... TOP QB *2007, 2009, and 2010 didn't exist...why the hell is everybody acting like they did? --------------------------- Tommy Rees packs up his locker for the ...
Yes, this is a post about that play or, more specifically, that penalty. We have two weeks to digest the entire Notre Dame and Florida State epic. That game shouldn't be defined by that one penalty nor do I want it to be. However, I'm mad as hell and can't get that moment out of my head so it's time to vent. Today, Brian Kelly mirrored my feelings perfectly as to why I'm so full of piss and vinegar right now: https://twitter.com/eTruth_Irish/status/523898772971991040 I stand behind ...
Well, folks, here we go. It's time for arguably the biggest game of the season and probably one of the few top-five matchups this season outside of the awesome SEC. By now, y'all should know the drill, so I'm going to skip the boring details and jump right into this thing and hit the ground running like I just grabbed some crab legs at Publix. My question: Slow and error-prone starts have plagued the Irish this season (save for an opening TD drive against Purdue). If you're Brian Kelly, ...
As I mentioned on this week's episode of HLS TV, I hate Stanford. Well, perhaps I should back up a bit, if I'm being honest with myself, saying that I hate Stanford is probably a bit much. No, the more accurate description is that I hate this lofty pedestal some Notre Dame fans have placed them on. Recently, Stanford somehow became the embodiment of the "right" way to run a football program and that Notre Dame should copy it. Their "old school, physical style" is somehow the ...
I believe that Notre Dame fans can more or less be classified into two distinct groups: those that prefer the status quo and those that embrace and/or desire change. I think it is a more apt description than "traditionalist" and "non-traditionalist" as all Irish fans certain have their own "thou shalt not touch" list when it comes to certain traditions and even standards at Notre Dame. Debates centering around change at Notre Dame infuriate me. Part of it has to do with my steadfast belief ...
With the first bye week of the season, I finally got some time to crack open the spreadsheets (and populate the whole thing because CFBstats.com is now charging an arm and a leg for their drive/play charts) and do a dive into some stats. Originally, this was going to be an exercise into show the available yards gained by Notre Dame in each game. It was an idea planted in my head with Michigan fans crying about total yardage gained. I figured this would more or less show just how well ND's ...
The investigation into academic improprieties of five Notre Dame players (as well as several other non-athletes) has been nothing short of a slow, frustrating process. The updates from under the Golden Dome have been few and far between since August. As the calendar prepares to turn to October, Brian Kelly did his level best to update a timeline that he has very little insight into. An academic committee has finally been formed. Should everything proceed according to plan, from what Kelly has ...
