Jack Swarbrick Speaks Out on Paying Student Athletes

December 11, 2014 by Ryan Ritter

Yesterday, Jack Swarbrick had an interview with CBSSports.com's Jon Solomon after an IMG Sports Network panel and it is most definitely worth your time to read. In it, he supports of paying student-athletes for use of their image and likeness. Now, before this causes a freak-out moment in thinking that Swarbrick is about to lead college athletics into a downward spiral, it is important to note that he isn't suggesting student athletes should become similar to minor league players, but rather ...

Notre Dame and Michigan: The End

September 10, 2014 by Ryan Ritter

I'm not used to storybook endings for Notre Dame football. That might sound a bit strange for a program full of feel-good lore, legends, and even a movie about a walk-on that managed to record a sack on his only defensive snap. That was all "back then" as many people that love to hate the Fighting Irish will consistently remind me. Recently, the script for Notre Dame football ends in nightmares. The 2012 season, and the events that followed after it, serves as a perfect example. After an ...

Friday Roundup: The “Sticking It to Michigan” Edition

September 5, 2014 by Ryan Ritter

Jack Swarbrick wore the biggest grin on his face since perhaps the conclusion of the 2012 regular season. His masterful plan now public, he opened his bottom desk drawer, revealing a bottle of scotch and glassware. Certainly some might think scotch before ten in the morning on a Thursday a little concerning, but not this day. This is a day for celebration. After pouring his morning beverage, his phone predictably rang. He had been waiting for this. "Hello, this is Jack." "YOU SORRY SON ...

Notre Dame Further Trolls Michigan, Schedules Ohio State

September 4, 2014 by Ryan Ritter

Jack Swarbrick, you are the best athletic director that Notre Dame has ever seen. There is no more masterful troll to Michigan than canning the series, scheduling Texas and Georgia, and now, doing this: https://twitter.com/NDFootball/status/507526191444951040 The dagger couldn't be shoved any further into the heart of Michigan and Dave Brandon. Allow me to express my feelings in a series of GIFs: Now excuse me while I die laughing. ...

Notre Dame Stadium Will Have Interlocking ND Monogram at Midfield

July 16, 2014 by Ryan Ritter

Today, Notre Dame announced details on the FieldTurf that will be installed in the House that Rock Built. One of the biggest questions, whether or not the design of the field would see changes with the new surface has been answered. That answer is yes with the most notable change coming in the form of a midfield interlocking ND monogram logo and a lesser (and surprise, in my opinion) change to add shamrocks at the 35-yard line to mark kickoff locations: "The interlocking ND is the most ...

Notre Dame and Georgia Series Puts Two ND/Texas Games in Danger

June 26, 2014 by Ryan Ritter

On Wednesday afternoon, Notre Dame finally made the rumored Georgia series official via Twitter: https://twitter.com/NDFootball/status/481876814714138624 While there was certainly much rejoicing about the series, an immediate damper was put on the celebration with an announcement that two future games against Texas were now in danger: https://twitter.com/McMurphyESPN/status/481932056017252352 You are now likely having one of two reactions: "DAMMIT!" "Wait, isn't ND/Texas ...

Good Fridays w/Padre: Relics

May 30, 2014 by Father Sorin

In Holy Mother Church (not to be confused with The BVM or your own mother, the first of whom will always care for you, the second of whom will never fail to criticize you) as I was saying, in Holy Mother Church we venerate such things called relics. The word comes from the Latin relictus, meaning ‘that which is left behind.’ Of course, you’d know that if my University hadn’t dropped the Latin and Greek requirement – you’re all getting weak. At any rate, a relic is a piece of a Holy Saint, and ...

Friday Roundup: The “Zack Martin, You Broke My Heart” Edition

May 30, 2014 by Ryan Ritter

Some times, I wonder why I love sports so much. They can cause me such pain and even in, what has been a quiet offseason to this point, Notre Dame football still finds a way to troll me. The Dallas Cowboys kicked off their OTAs this week and our best defender, middle linebacker, Sean Lee, when down with what will likely be a season ending ACL tear. So where's the Notre Dame connection? First round draft pick, Zack Martin, was the one that fell on him to cause the ...

Notre Dame Football: Blue and Gold Game Thoughts and Reactions

April 12, 2014 by WhiskyPoet

Saturday was the 85th Notre Dame spring game and as we all freaked out from the big news of field turf installation, a minor football scrimmage broke out behind the angelic view of Jack Swarbrick. Here are many of my thoughts and reactions to what I saw and heard during the annual retail football event: Tradition Is Dead Alex Flannigan was able to make the biggest announcement regarding Notre Dame football since Jimmy Clausen visited the College Football Hall of Fame: Notre Dame Stadium ...
