Those Crazy Band Kids
So apparently the band kids get crazy at Wisconsin. Kinda like that girl from American Pie with the flute? Well, maybe not... But nonetheless, they do get crazy. ESPN, in a desperate attempt to fill their front page during a week of 'slow' article development, reported that the Wisconsin Band is in a heap of trouble after a raucous bus ride back from Michigan. Those crazy kids - I remember away-game-bus-ride-hazings when I played a SPORT back in HIGH SCHOOL when I was 16 YEARS OLD. Frankly, I ...
“Others Receiving Votes”
I was checking out the rankings, and it struck me how odd this year is compared to what we came to 'know' when we were at ND. We came to 'know' that Florida State and Miami were unstoppable powerhouses, we came to 'know' that certain teams were horrid and a walk in the park, and we came to 'know' that we should be in the upper echelon of college football, but we weren't. Okay, there shouldn't be quotes around that last know. We did know that. But checking out the latest polls and ...
HLS Bye Week Viewing Guide
With Notre Dame taking it easy this week, you might be thinking to yourself, "Self, what on earth am I going to do with my Saturday with no Notre Dame football to view? And why does my wife keep coming home late? And why does my daughter wear so much black clothing? And will my son ever learn to stop being such a pansy? And why does my dog keep barking at me? We used to be best friends. Now he barks at me and sometimes he snaps at me! I'm afraid. And will my boss ever recognize ...
Friday Roundup: The Phoenix Edition
We're back! And undeader than ever! HLS: Like her, except hotter. We had some technical difficulties (I didn't pay the bills), so our host shut us down early this morning. It wouldn't have been a problem had I known that it was time to renew the contract (I've actually owned this domain for 4 years), and had the credit card I used to buy the domain not expired 3 years ago, and had I not moved about 4 times since then, and had I still been using the e-mail account or phone number that the ...
Ronald Talley Leaves Notre Dame Football Team
Defensive End Ronald Talley has left the Notre Dame football team according to a University of Notre Dame press release. Still looking for a link, but it's been confirmed on NDN and IE. Thanks to lousy recruiting in the last years of the Ty Willingham debacle, this leaves us terribly thin on the defensive line. It will be very interesting to see how things play out the rest of the season. Good luck to Talley. Hopefully this is the right move for him. Edit: He's already no longer ...
White Sox to Start Games at 7:11. University of Florida games to start at 4:20
Yesterday, the White Sox announced a promotional deal with national retail chain 7-11. As part of the deal, the White Sox will begin home games at 7:11 pm. Soon after news of the White Sox deal was announced, the University of Florida announced its own deal that will involve all University of Florida games starting at 4:20. No official word yet on the promotional sponsor. Says Florida Athletics Director, Jeremy Foley: "Hey, man. Just think about it for a second. Just think about ...
ND Opponent “Bye” Declared Slightly Less Boring than Purdue
SOUTH BEND, Ind.--During a week without much else to do, the staff at HLS was able to conduct some research regarding Notre Dame's upcoming opponent BYE. The staff learned that BYE is a slightly less boring opponent than Purdue. In the all-time boring opponents rankings, BYE was sandwiched between Purdue and the slightly less boring near-namesake BYU, presumably based solely on the fact that "The Punky QB" Jim McMahon attended BYU. A somewhat boring fan demonstrates BYE's bland ...
Sam Young Doesn’t Hit the Wall. Sam Young Actually IS a Wall.
HLS would like to place itself firmly in the shotgun position of the Sam Young bandwagon. We look forward to many pancakes in the future. That's not really much of a change due to Sam. We're always looking forward to pancakes. Specifically with some chocolate chips and whipped cream. Anyway, I digress and head to the cafeteria. Meanwhile, you can read a little about The Wall here. And here, have a blurb so the headline makes sense: "A lot of people talk about the wall, the freshman ...
Is Ivan Maisel Trying to Fight Off Early Alzheimers?
Ivan is clearly upping his dosage. Maybe he could contact Urban Meyer's boys for some helpful hints. At any rate, Ivan has this to say about the Notre Dame/Michigan Game less than a month after the event actually took place under his "biggest moments of the half-season" heading. 3. Michigan blows out Notre Dame in South Bend It seems like a long time ago now, since the Wolverines are ranked fourth in the nation and are looking unstoppable. But don't forget that they went into Notre Dame ...
