Loyal Readers, as Christmas approaches this week, I want to take some time to brag and highlight the efforts of this crazy little blogging community. Personally, I know that while I enjoy this time-consuming hobby, I'm most proud of using my platform that I somehow stumbled into to do some good. Quite frankly, it's peak Notre Dame, in my humble opinion. First, we start with the fine gents at Notre Dame, Our Blogger. They decided to paywall all content this year, but in doing so, decided to ...

Masks Are Back, Plus New Designs Benefiting Charity!
Some time ago, our merch vendor, TeePublic, added masks to all of our designs. Unfortunately, I became aware of this too late and their mask supply sold out. Thankfully, they are back in stock, which gives me a great excuse to debut two new designs that will see 100% of their proceeds go to charity. First we have "Go Irish, Beat COVID" which is fairly self explanatory, no? All proceeds will benefit my Extra Life campaign, benefiting the Children's Hospital Foundation of Oklahoma City. I do ...
HLS Podcast: Extra Life 2019 Special
I wasn't planning on releasing a podcast. In fact, the interviews that you are about to hear were initially planned to debut during my 24-hour Extra Life marathon. But then Chip Long and Notre Dame decided to break up. In a happy accident, one of my guests, Ty Hildenbrandt of The Solid Verbal, already had a scheduled interview just a mere 24 hours after the news broke. So it seemed rather appropriate to get our thoughts on the situation in your podcast feeds ASAP with the added benefit of ...
Sim for Charity
Last year, I decided that the HLS Podcast needed to do something different to differentiate Shane & I from the crowd. The first phase of this was establishing a Twitch channel. I saw the live-streaming platform branching out into non-gaming endeavors like the NBA G-League and even Pro Wrestling. So why not college football? I'm definitely not the only one that felt this way as a certain society of banners recently did the same thing. While I'm not sure if we were the first college ...
‘Tis the Season of Giving: Help Raise Money for the Children’s Miracle Network
Long-time readers will likely recognize the adorable child in the photo above as Aven. The same folks may also remember that HLS has a large part in a fundraising campaign, Savin' Aven, to help Aven and his family, which are family friends of mine, with the costs associated with his Leukemia treatment. Aven lost that battle. He was just two years old. For the third consecutive year, I'm honoring the memory of Aven through an effort called Extra Life. All proceeds raised go to the local ...
Irish Raise Green
Loyal Readers, if there is one thing that our little section of the internet succeeds very well at, it's raising money for charity. To kick off this season, @PDXIrish (and @bridgetgoirish with a design assist) is spearheading an effort, #IrishRaiseGreen, to raise money for Immigrant & Refugee Community Organization and RAICES. Because combining charity and football is always a fantastic thing, donation amounts are determined by a ND football bingo game of sorts. Here's how this works: ...
Annual Ticket Auction Fundraiser is Here!
Friends and Countrypersons! Tis I, The Biz-kit! I LIVE! And I auction. Here it is folks, the annual auction to benefit the general scholarship fund. This year we have a killer slate of killer tickets to get your charitable juices flowing. Per usual it's a silent auction with the winning bid getting the tickets and the profits going to ND. Win Win and (hopefully) WIN! Especially over the Skunkbears and the Trees, which are the two games we have this year. So, here are the rules. 1. ...
‘Tis the Season for Giving
Loyal Readers, the Advent season is upon us. As we prepare for the coming of Christmas, our minds often go to giving--not just in terms of gifts to our families, but to charity as well. On this holiday season, I have two drives to highlight within not just the Notre Dame community, but our little slice of blogging and podcasting the Irish. ...
Go Irish. Beat Harvey.
News headlines have been dominated by the flooding in Houston caused by Hurricane (now Tropical Storm) Harvey. With the threat of further flooding still present and the current water levels so severe, the folks along the Gulf Coast that were hit dead-on by a Category 4 hurricane have been overshadowed. That's not a comment on news coverage. That's a demonstration of just how historically bad this thing is. Many of my fellow Texans need your help. I'm sure many of you reading this ...
Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is
There is something truly terrible going on in South Bend. Important people are ignoring that a culture has changed for the worse and few seem inclined to do anything about that fact. It's time to confront this problem head on by contributing to a cause that seeks to eradicate this scourge once and for all. There is a group of well-intentioned Notre Dame alumni and fans of the football program who are raising funds for this important cause. I've donated - and I want you to too. I am, ...
