Hello, Loyal Readers, remember me? Yes, I'm still around, buried in work and travel, including getting stuck in the epic Southwest operational systems failure. Do not fear, I am not emerging from my semi-retired shell to tell you stories of a day job that you care nothing about, but rather to pass on some news given to me from the Notre Dame Monogram Club. Does the following sound good to you? Two tickets to watch the Irish play either Michigan State or Stanford Two field passes to said ...

Holy Saturdays w/Padre: Hatred
I have never been the most peaceful person. And that is my fault. Yet, my form of chiding and ridiculing has never been designed to inspire hatred. I was taught back in France that we adore God, we love people, we like things, and we hate the devil. Perhaps that simplicity has been lost. We love Our Lady, and therefore we love Our Lady’s University. But any loyal sons and daughters have learned that we do not hate. We compete, we defeat, we supersede. We win. But we do not hate. We do not ...
Good Fridays w/Padre: Being Generous
In this season of giving, in what I’m told is now a Year of Mercy, the Alumni Association is giving away lanterns to people who “Be the Light.” I’m not sure if this is a command, a wish, or slang. But vague grammar aside, it is a very nice idea to send lanterns to those who light up your days and nights. I would have loved it if someone had sent me a lantern or two around Christmas of 1842 – my log cabin was quite dark and things growled outside the door at night, seeking entry and food. I have ...
Congrats to our Ticket Charity Auction Winners!
We were at HLS would like to both congratulate and thank Marlon, Thomas, and Mark for their winning bids in the ticket auction! Thus far, we have raised $2,700 for charity. I say thus far because we are still sorting some things out with the Georgia Tech tickets. You might just be able to come in and swipe them. This is also the first year that HLS readers consistently beat the pants of my local ND Alumni Club's ticket auction for every pair of tickets sold. Y'all came out in force this ...

Savin’ Aven
Right before football season started, my wife received some terrible news from a good friend of hers. They were roommates in college, have continued to be good friends and has become my friend. We were at her wedding and the happy couple attended ours this past May. They were blessed with a child. This summer, at only one year old, he was diagnosed with Leukemia. They hadn't told many people. In fact, we didn't find out until a couple months will after he was diagnosed. They tried to ...
Tex Takes the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
I figured before too long, I would finally get challenged to take part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge that has gone viral across social media. Yesterday, I was more than happy to accept, donate, and help spread awareness to this terrible and fatal disease that we still do not have a cure for. I have extended the challenge as a part of the on-going friendly #BlogWar to our fellow Notre Dame blogging friends The Subway Domer, One Foot Down, and Down the Tunnel. The main goal is for them to ...
