After a run in which their smallest margin of victory was 11, capped of by the absolute destruction of Maryland by 31 (not a typo), the Lady Irish find themselves in the same position as they did last season, a Final Four game against rival UCONN. Last season, ND took down the favored Huskies 72-63, but fell just short of the national title, losing to Texas A&M 76-70. This season though, the Lady Irish, led by junior point guard, Skylar Diggins, are looking for a different fate. Diggins, ...
Irish Fall to Xavier, Refs Take Center Stage
Before we get too far into this, I want to make one thing very, very clear: Notre Dame managed to blow that game all on their own before the calls in question. We went away from the offense that got us to a ten point lead, started jacking up ill-advised shots, missed free throws, and to top it all off had a bone-headed turnover towards the end of the game. Obviously though, that isn't the story most Irish fans are focusing on at this moment. The last minute of the game was marked by a lane ...
Tee Shepard Out At ND
March Madness apparently isn't limited to basketball. Brian Hardin, director of ND football media relations, released quite a few interesting notes on his twitter feed today. Michigan will be a night game, Amir Carlisle was cleared by the NCAA to play in 2012 after his transfer from Southern Cal, and Tee Shepard withdrew from Notre Dame. No explanation was given for the shocking development. The only official statement from ND came from Brian Kelly: ...
Let’s Talk Some Hoops
Firstly, as a quick aside, I'd like to give my personal farewell to MQ as he rides off into the sunset. Thanks for building up this little corner of the internet to what it is today. There is something very special about having a truly independent voice to discuss Notre Dame, one that also allows for differing opinions within the staff itself. Thanks for giving me the chance to contribute here. I'm proud to write for this site. Even though you are an asshole for leaving Biscuit in charge. ...
NCAA Makes More Rule Changes That Make No Sense
In the never ending quest of the NCAA trying to make college football safer, you will be seeing some changes in the 2012 season. And, in typical NCAA fashion, the majority of the changes make zero sense. We'll start with the not so awful and spiral downward into NCAA stupidity. Leading off are some changes to blocking below the waist: The rules panel also approved new wording in the football rules book regarding blocking below the waist. Offensive players in the tackle box at the snap who ...
Kelly’s “Shot” at Greenberry
According to CBSSports.com, Brian Kelly really put his foot in his mouth on signing day when it came to commenting on Deontay Greenberry: Coach Brian Kelly wanted the focus to be on the 16 players who signed, rather than the one (5-star WR Deontay Greenberry) who didn't. "I used to have a saying about players like that and that was I'd rather play against him for four games than with him for four years," he told UND.com. If you follow the link, you will see that this isn't an excerpt from an ...
2012 Recruiting Roundup
So much for thinking that all the recruiting craziness was behind us. As I said before in my Gunner Kiel post, my golden rule of following recruiting is that until a recruit actually enrolls early or faxes in his signed letter of intent, anything can and will happen. Today, the anything was a surprise defection from Deontay Greenberry to Houston of all places. Greenberry, a five star WR (or four star depending on which recruiting rankings you follow), made his eleventh hour decision despite ...
From the Bayou to the Bend: The Gunner Kiel Saga Concludes?
I have a golden rule when it comes to recruiting: Until a recruit actually enrolls early or faxes in his signed letter of intent, anything can and will happen. Recruits will be poached, they will change their minds, and Bob Diaco will show up at your house before you even wake up. Last year, the Irish faithful that dared to strap into this rollercoaster were taken for a ride by Aaron Lynch. For those that do not remember, before finally committing to Notre Dame, he committed to Notre Dame ...
Brian Kelly Extended Through 2016
While everyone's workday was wrapping up on the East Coast, Notre Dame announced that Brian Kelly had received a two-year extension to remain as Notre Dame's head coach through 2016. In the press release, athletic director Jack Swarbrick had this to say about Kelly and his new contract: "While Coach Kelly and I are focused on the additional work that must be done to reach our goals, I am very pleased with the progress we have made during the past two years." University of Notre Dame vice ...
Onward to Victory: Notre Dame Hockey
This is your friendly reminder that "Onward to Victory: Notre Dame Hockey" will air tonight at 9:30pm EST on Versus (soon to be the NBC Sports Network). And after the horrid excuse for a football game that was the Champs Sports Bowl, any escape from thinking about ND football is definitely welcome at this point. As discussed in this week's Pre-Snap Read, the show will cover the roots of the Irish hockey program, the emergence of the program as a national power, the building of the Compton ...
