It was a quiet week for the Irish in the NFL this weekend. There have been a number of guys out with injuries. Tyler Eifert has been out with an ankle injury but it was refreshing to hear he has slowly begun practicing again. The one big highlight of the weekend came from Golden Tate and his touchdown. The fun part wasn’t so much the score (unless he’s on your fantasy team) but more his celebration after with the Detroit ...
Irish in the NFL: Week 05
I won’t lie. I didn’t watch a lick of the NFL this weekend. Not because I don’t love my football but because I was more concerned with the baseball playoffs. I probably watched a total of 3 minutes of highlights and only because it was the Dallas Cowboys. Other than that, it was all about the Cubs and seeing some great playoff baseball. And how about those Cubs getting a game four win over the Giants? I’ll take it! 1908 was an even year too! #BeliEVEN From the looks of things, Theo Riddick ...
Irish in the NFL: Week 04
I love the Dallas Cowboys. I grew up watching during the end of the Tom Landry era and though Herschel Walker was the bomb, Ed “Too Tall” Jones was the bee’s knees and later loved when the trio of Aikman, Smith and Irvin won championships. I still refuse to cheer for Jimmy Johnson because of his time at Miami, but he’s okay with the Boys. I was ecstatic to be at the Cowboys-49ers game this weekend with my fellow ND alum Bobby. We were loud and boisterous. It was a different level of ...
Irish in the NFL: Week 03
With another weekend of NFL football under our belts, the Irish saw a number of former players see action over the weekend. Perhaps the most disappointing news to come from Sunday’s action was the non-contact injury suffered by Chargers co-captain Manti Te’o. It was announced Monday morning Te'o suffered a torn Achilles and would require season-ending surgery. Sadly, he has yet to play a full season in the NFL. Te'o will have to wait til the 2017 year to try again. ...
The Case For Continuing The Shamrock Series
Debate This is a recurring series on HerLoyalSons in which two writers take opposing sides on a hot topic. Today and tomorrow, we will debate whether or not Notre Dame should continue its annual neutral-site Shamrock Series game. On Thursday, tricerapops argued that the Shamrock Series may become "a drag." Today, Chris argues for the continuation of the series, which is on a one-year hiatus. Let’s just get this out there: I love the Shamrock Series. I was as president of the ND Club of El ...
Zaire Switching To Smith’s No. 9 This Fall
According to several reports, specifically an interview on Irish Sports Daily, QB Malik Zaire will be changing numbers this fall from his no. 8 to Jaylon Smith’s no. 9. ...
Blue Gold Game Preview: Defensive Line
In our final day of previews, HLS takes a look at quite possibly the strongest aspect of the Notre Dame defense: the defensive line. Defensive line coach Keith Gilmore's defensive front will face a number of challenges due to personnel changes and the development of defensive coordinator Brian Van Gorder's scheme, but has a good shot at being more disruptive up front than last year's squad. We’ve seen a blitz work at times for Van Gorder when linebackers and others in the secondary crashed the ...
