Checking in on Former Irish Now in the NBA

July 25, 2016 by EricStFrame

Pat Connaughton may have led the league in minutes played this summer. He averaged around 30 minutes per game. This is a good sign for his future with the Portland Trailblazers. Pat started the summer league with a bang, dunking one down early against Spurs. He then shot poorly vs Suns, going only 1-for-7 from beyond the 3 point-line. However, he adapted by scoring 14 points on hard drives and drawing fouls. Pat's leaping ability was also on display on the defensive side as he managed a block or ...

Notre Dame’s Most Talented Opponents

June 28, 2016 by andrewwinn

Pro Football Focus unveiled its 101 best college players Monday, offering an early glimpse at some of the players that will likely give the Irish fits come this fall. Before we look at Irish opponents, let's look at the two Notre Dame players that made the list: Offensive linemen Mike McGlinchey and Quenton Nelson. Here's what PFF's Steve Palazzolo said about McGlinchey, who he ranked #36 overall. McGlinchey has made great strides since arriving at Notre Dame as a high-upside freshman. ...

How Does Notre Dame Replace Demetrius Jackson?

April 19, 2016 by EricStFrame

With the departure of Demetrius Jackson, the Irish lose a leader, an INCREDIBLE athlete and perhaps the most well-defined set of shoulders in all of college sports. As a projected lottery pick, there is no doubt that Jackson deserves to play in the NBA and even has a potential to grow into an all-star caliber player. Anyone else note the Russell Westbrook similarities? Jackson's speed of play - as well as his athletic build - are both eerily similar to that of Westbrook. When it comes to the ...

Wedding and Wake: A Tale of Notre Dame vs. Kentucky

March 31, 2015 by Ryan Ritter

The bride and groom had long since finished their first dance, toasts delivered, and the cake cut. The DJ did his level-best to fire up the dance floor, but the only dance at Table 11 was the setup of iPads and a WiFi hotspot. Such is life at a Domer wedding when one of the major sports just happens to take center stage on your big day. But honestly, who could have seen this interruption coming, especially if you make the conscious decision to avoid scheduling the dreaded fall ...

Review: Showtime’s “Hoops U”

March 19, 2015 by andrewwinn

“This group should be remembered. When it’s all said and done – we’re going to play for a long time. Our season’s going to go for a while. We should be remembered for things that happened in Notre Dame basketball that’s never happened before.” – Notre Dame men’s basketball coach Mike Brey It’s seven weeks before Selection Sunday, and Showtime has brought its cameras to two college basketball programs that are both on surprising upswings. After disappointing 2013-14 campaigns, the Notre ...

Notre Dame vs. Duke and Why You Shouldn’t Be Waiting Until March

January 28, 2015 by Ryan Ritter

If you've been watching the Notre Dame men's basketball season, you already know. If you haven't been watching this season, let me assure you, this isn't your typical Brey-ball. The burn offense has given way to #DunksDuLac, a much more exciting and athletic offense that many of us have longed for. Of course, that doesn't mean that this team isn't full of threats on the perimeter as well, with the team shooting 40% from beyond the arc. Defense is still a touch lacking and often times the ...

Irish Baseball: Opening Weekend and What’s to Come

February 17, 2014 by Bayou Irish

http://youtu.be/ReuOZ7SjOqM Baseball is tradition-rich and quirky and democratic. No other sport encourages to keep your own score and expects you not to jinx the perfect game going on in front of you. It's one in which fans collect cards and obsess over trivia like no other. It's a game of poetry and literature and, as you can see, music. http://youtu.be/bE1dz6_u2JI But for Irish fans, baseball is a game that tends to fall into the gaps in our calendars and consciences, between the ...

ND News: Irish Down Duke, Tuitt Declares

January 6, 2014 by Bayou Irish

Despite there being no football game or national championship won, this last weekend should go down as one of the more important, if not the first ever, of 2014. As Friday became Saturday, and the temperatures in Purcell Pavillion rose on account of the nattering nabobs of the nation's assembled media, as Saturday became Sunday, and the temperatures outside plunged and record snow whited-out the landscape, Notre Dame filled the non-weather-related headlines. Saturday saw Coach Mike Brey's ...
