Well, well, well. How do those seven weeks picking Ohio State look NOW? Huh? What’s that? I can’t hear you? Or maybe your answer got blocked and run back for a touchdown.

1. Bama – They’re undefeated or now, but don’t sleep on those rejuvenated tigers… either of them.
2. THE University of Michigan – Not mocking the SEC for light scheduling any more, are they?
3. Clemson – They may lose to FSU, or not. Whatever.
4. Washington – They might slip up against Utah, but who’s the alternative pick here? West Virginia? Boise State? No thanks.I’ll keep the Huskies here until they lose.

Is it basketball season yet? What a difference a year makes. Unless you are Alabama.

1. Alabama – With apologies to Auburn Elvis, who is left to stand in Saban’s way?
2. Michigan – Fine. I give up. I just hope we can do to the Wolverines what Penn State did to Ohio State.
3. Clemson – Would love to see them thumplay the ‘Noles this weekend.
4. Washington – Are the Huskies the only team in the Pac-12 to NOT give up 40 points a game?

1. Alabama. Toughest schedule among the unbeaten teams.
2. Clemson. 2-0 vs current top-10 teams (Louisville & Auburn)
3. M******n. Only the Buckeyes can spoil the season.
4. Washington. Best win to date is against 4-3 Stanford

1. Alabama – Not much trouble with the VoLOLs. Sidebar: You could replace any three SEC East teams with App State, Nicholls State, and East Carolina, and no one would notice a drop off in quality.
2. Michigan – I don’t understand why people are praising Ohio State for almost losing in overtime. Meanwhile, Michigan’s just over there, waiting to win the league.
3. Washington – Is Washington still undefeated? Didn’t they have a bye week? I confess I’m not sure. Those games just start so late, and I have a life (OK, not really).
4. Clemson – Goodness. It is not right that this team is going to win the ACC (come on, Clemsoning) and make it into the playoff. There are probably 10 teams that would beat Clemson right now, but that’s college football I guess.

Hawkeye Elvis Top Four coming at you from my Black and Gold Jungle Room…

1. Alabama – I, for one, welcome our new SEC overlords.
2. Ohio State – C’mon. The Buckeyes beat Wisconsin by the exact same margin that Michigan did. And did it on the road.
3. Clemson – The Tigers always have that one game where you think they are toast and then they come out clean.
4. Washington – I really don’t see anyone in the Pac-12 beating these guys.

On deck – khaki-wearing led hooligans, Texas A&M(?), Bayl-hahahahaha yeah the Big 12 is getting shut out this year.

1. Alabama – They dispatched Arkansas fairly easily, but they better not jump out 21-0 against Tennessee this week or it’s all over for the Tide.
2. Michigan – I’m kinda thinking Ohio State will struggle with Wisconsin, so I’m keeping the Wolverines here as my presumptive Big 10 Champion for at least one more week.
3. Clemson – I don’t like Clemson, but as long as they keep winning, I guess I have to keep them here.

Iowa keeps the pig! I hope that’s not the highlight of my season. Hawkeye Elvis Top Four…

1. Alabama – Tide rolls. Vols will be interesting.
2. Ohio State – I think they will steamroll the Badgers as they look forward to the khaki-wearers.
3. Clemson – Shows no sign of Clemsoning anytime soon.
4. Washington – I don’t see an obstacle between them and playoffs.

Gonna switch it up a bit this week (and probably going forward) — taking a look at who they’ve played…

1. Clemson. 2-0 vs. top-10 teams. Not seeing too many other teams with that on their resume
2. Alabama. 1-0 vs. top-10, and 2-0 vs. top-30. Any arguments, Volunteers?
3. M******n. 2-0 vs. top-30 competition. I’m shocked they’ve played anyone that difficult.
4. Washington. Their only top-30 opponent was Stanford, but they looked mighty fine that evening.

Let’s just take a moment to bask in the futility that is Georgia Football… [inhale]… [exhale]… Yes. Delicious. We need to get us a Georgia Elvis in this thing. Hey, Readers. If any of you have a line on someone willing to A) dress as amazingly as we do on Saturdays, and B) admit they’re a Georgia fan right now, have them get in touch with us. Thankyouverymuch.

Now my Playoff Picks:

1. Alabama (or maybe Texas A&M?) – The SEC may be down, but it’s still the Gold Standard in College Football, so its champion will get into the playoff.
2. Michigan (or Ohio State) – Like the SEC, the Big 10 Champion will get in, and I think Michigan is a smarter pick… for now.
3. Clemson (or Louisville) – Some idiots are saying the ACC may get TWO teams in, but I’m sorry, no way that happens. There are enough Committee members from Big 12/ Pac 12 country who will NOT suffer the indignity of two ACC teams in the playoffs at the expense of a decent Western team..
4. Washington (or Houston) – Stanford wasn’t consistent enough so they blew their shot, and if Washington slips up too, only Houston stands in the way of a completely Eastern playoff field this year. But that’s what you get from a region where college football isn’t as important as hacky-sack, or whatever the hippies are doing these days.

Well the Hawkeyes have gone from the penthouse to the outhouse. Nothing to do but keep on movin’ on.

1. Alabama – Can Bert Bielema pull off a shocker this week? Probably not.
2. Ohio State – Urbz is just rolling through his schedule. Nothing scary until the end.
3. Clemson – The way that Florida State has tumbled, I don’t see any more road bumps for the Tigers.
4. Washington – Wow. I had no idea that teams could shut down Christian McCaffery like that.

On deck – Houston, a certain khaki-wearing coached team that I still refuse to acknowledge…..

1. Alabama. This season, boring gets results.
2. M******n. Big matchup with Rutgers to impress the pollsters. </end sarcasm>
3. Clemson. Outlasts Louisville, shows some big-time flashes on both sides of the ball that will serve them well (again) come playoff time.
4. Washington nudges out Houston here because of their impressive performance against Stanford. Ok, it was a depleted Cardinal offensive line, but Chris Peterson’s squad has done it against decent competition all year.

Next up: Ohio State, Houston.

Things are looking better in the college football world. (Translation: my team won). So here’s my latest four playoff teams.

1. Michigan – They certainly look good against floundering Penn State.
2. Alabama – But I will say Texas A&M is looking more and more like a potential ‘Bama stumbling block.
3. Louisville – But come on, do we REALLY believe Louisville will win the ACC and beat Houston?
4. Stanford – Washington isn’t really living up to the hype, so let’s slot the Cardinal here until a second SEC or Big 10 team comes along.

4. Houston. The Cougars have a good win on the books and will wait for the Big 5 conferences to cannibalize those currently ranked ahead of them

Football is back.

HEY EVERYBODY, FOOTBALL IS BACK!

In case you’ve just joined us, my esteemed colleagues and I do our best to forecast your 4 playoff teams. The Internet is a democratic place, so we had to narrow the parameters a bit. First, college football fandom is a must. But that still casts a wide net. So I thought to myself, “Are there other Elvis fans who cheer for other universities?” And it so happens there are. So we invented the TCB Poll.

In our inaugural attempt, the 2014 Preseason Poll, the collective Elvii presented you, the Loyal Readers, with Florida State, Alabama, and Oregon. We had a Big 12 team (Oklahoma) in the 4th spot and Ohio State 7th. The Actual Playoff Committee went with the Buckeyes after seeing the full season of games, but our very first attempt hit at a 75% clip.

Last year, our affinity for Hawkeye Elvis slanted our playoff hopes away from Michigan State and toward Iowa.

We are back with our third installment of these preseason rankings. My jumpsuited compatriots will bring you their commentary for college football’s top four teams each week, and I’ll aggregate our scores for you so you can be the smartest fan in your social circle — the one who listens to grown men with long sideburns wearing sunglasses indoors and out.

My prediction philosophy is to base early week rankings completely on what teams WILL BECOME, and as the season goes on, inject the reality of on-the-field outcomes. So, with no games played (other than that weird game in Australia that no one watched), the top 4 teams in college football will be:

1. Oklahoma
2. LSU
3. Michigan
4. Florida State

Well I went to the Rose Bowl and while the game didn’t turn out great the rest of the trip did. And Iowa has a fair amount to look forward to this season.

As for my Top 4?

1. Clemson – The Tigers have talent. And haven’t had the distractions they have had in Tuscaloosa.
2. Alabama – Best in the SEC….for now.
3. Oklahoma – Bob Stoops is now the longest tenured head coach in college football along with Kirk Ferentz. Fun Fact! Stoops played at Iowa.
4. LSU – I will see the Bayou Bengals live in their opener against Wisconsin.

1. Alabama. The defending champs continue reloading and grayshirting. Their opening game will be the main data point that pollsters use to justify a lofty ranking until October.
2. Clemson. Lost some defensive talent, but they return their quarterback. They open at Auburn, so we’ll see how the Tiger/Tiger matchup is early, but they should be sitting pretty for a Halloween showdown in Doak Campbell with FSU.
3. Oklahoma. This ranking will be too low my the end of September if the Sooners can dispose of a quality Houston squad and Ohio State. If this team is clicking early, they are playoff material.
4. Michigan. Egads this is disgusting, but the Wolverines have a comfortable path to 7-0. Their schedule has two tough road games: Michigan State and Ohio State, but they come late in the year. I think Harbaugh is still a year away, but the khaki noise from the Mitten State is going to be annoying come late October.

Considered, then rejected (for preseason): Washington, FSU, Notre Dame.

Does Iowa have a shot? Will the Tar Heels bring balance to the Force and take down Clemson? All I know is, I had a nice Thanksgiving and unlike a lot of college coaches right now, I’m gainfully employed.

1. Bama – This spot no longer will go to the SEC Champion. Florida has become so miserable since losing their quarterback, only Bama can advance from the SEC. And they will.
2. B1G Champion (Michigan State) – I’m pulling hard for the Hawkeyes, but boy the Spartans look tough.
3. ACC Champion (Clemson) – I’m hoping the Other Tigers go down in flames, but until they do, they’re in.
4. Oklahoma – Putting the Sooners in over Stanford does two things: it throws the Big 12 a bone for last year’s snub, and it upsets Notre Dame and Buckeye fans, which is always rewarding.

Wow. I really didn’t think the day would come when I could legitimately include my Iowa Hawkeyes in the TCB Top Four. But that day is here and I can’t wait to see how long we can keep it going. Gotta follow that dream.

1. Clemson – Did the Tigers show some vulnerability on Saturday? Was it enough for the Tar Heels to take advantage this week?
2. Alabama – If they don’t absolutely murder/death/kill Florida this weekend I will be shocked.
3. Oklahoma – Man, I bet the Sooners would love to have that game against Texas back.
4. Iowa – One game to go to seal the Big Ten Conference Championship and more importantly, a trip to the playoffs.

On deck: Michigan State (can take Iowa’s spot with a win), Ohio State (Buckeyes are the biggest UNC and Florida fans on earth right now)

No TCB lightning bolts this week — everyone had Clemson & Alabama pegged for the College Football Playoff Committee, but no Elvis foresaw the Committee’s choice of Oklahoma & Iowa in the 3-4 spots, a decision that was vindicated by last Saturday’s results.

1. Clemson (47) – Most difficult schedule of the unbeatens. Take a bow, Other Tigers.
2. Iowa (62) – I think Michigan State is the next team in if the Hawkeyes falter in Indianapolis, but Iowa is this year’s Cinderella team for sure.
3. Alabama (5) – A Florida victory would seem to indicate a playoff with zero SEC teams. Darth Saban and the SEC referees will ensure this does not come to pass.
4. Oklahoma (20) – They appear to be following the 2014 Ohio State method: lose early and then get better as the season wears on. If any of the other three teams slip on conference championship weekend, they can nudge higher.

Other one-loss teams (with schedule strength in parentheses) – MSU (53), OSU (61), UNC (63), Houston (95).

Well, I kept telling everyone Ohio State would pull a 2009-Florida and lose late… of course, I also said Texas A&M, LSU,and Auburn would win the SEC (but I NEVER picked Ole Miss, so I get points for that.)

1. SEC Champion (Bama) – I feel pretty good about this since even after an Iron Bowl loss, Bama will still win the West (suck it, Rebels) and probably the SEC.
2. B1G Champion (Michigan State) – Barring an Iowa championship (fingers crossed), it looks like Michigan State is back in the driver’s seat for a playoff birth.
3. Clemson – God, I hope the Tar Heels win.
4. Notre Dame – I think this is the year their “but look at how great our loss was” argument actually works. But if they fail to impress versus Stanford, the Big 12 Champ could jump the Irish.

3. Iowa – A winnable game in Lincoln. A winnable contest against (probably) Sparty. Uncharted territory for the Hawks.
4. Notre Dame – Still have the best loss. But are Alabama’s wins really that much better than what the Irish have done?

Hawkeye Elvis (like his team) is on a roll; last week he correctly predicting the playoff committee’s top six teams, so that’ll earn him a couple TCBolts. Auburn Elvis correctly tabbed the four teams, so he gets one TCB lightning bolt. Now, if he can engineer some Iron Bowl shenanigans…

1. Clemson (47) – Other Tigers are going to have to defeat some Carolinas in the next couple weeks, but undefeated and solid scheduling indicate they’re on their way to the playoff.
2. Iowa (62) – Ohio State falls, and there’s a chance Hawkeye Elvis is on the sidelines of the playoff. (Cue “If I Can Dream…”)
3. Alabama (8) – Here come the one-loss teams. ‘Bama may end as #2, but Charleston Southern is not a good look, Tide.
4. Notre Dame (29) – Brilliant move by Under Armour to bring alternate uniforms for a game where they played like garbage (and won)…hopefully no one will recognize that green-clad team was Notre Dame.

1. Clemson – Should be able to cruise to the ACC Championship game. Heads up to the Tigers: don’t take your rival lightly at the end of the year.
2. Alabama – Will continue to just bludgeon teams to death en route to the SEC Title.
3. Ohio State – So the next couple of weeks will be big ones for the Buckeyes, huh.
4. Notre Dame – I can’t decide if the Stanford loss hurts or helps the Irish. The only way they get left out is if Oklahoma State runs the table.

On deck – Iowa, Oklahoma State (I told you those Cyclones can be pesky when they want to be!).

Hawkeye Elvis put in some good work last week and nailed the (actual) committee’s Top 4, so he gets a TCB lightning bolt sticker. A little made up competition never hurt anyone, right?

1. Clemson (34) – The Other Tigers continue their march, and their schedule strength stacks up against the other undefeateds quite nicely.
2. Oklahoma State (58) – Big test this weekend, and a loss will open the door wiiiiide open for a bunch of other one-loss teams
3. Ohio State (67) – Tougher remaining schedule, and not afraid to pop in an undefeated(!) Iowa here if the Buckeyes falter.
4. Alabama – One loss to a bad Ole Miss team, but they pass the eye test.

On deck: Notre Dame, Iowa.
