A Notre Dame Football Blog
January has been quite the month for post-college life for many former and current Notre Dame athletes. I am sure you all know that many of team 127 players are headed to the NFL draft, but what you might not know is that THERE ARE OTHER DRAFTS BESIDES FOOTBALL. Crazy concept, right! Earlier this month the MLS draft took place and ND fared pretty well. Max Lachowecki went 25th overall to Real Salt Lake, followed close by Patrick Hodan at 28th overall to San Jose Earthquakes and Vince ...
Jerian Grant (22) throws the ball in the air as time expires on another historic ND hoops upset.
With the notoriety and popularity that comes with Notre Dame football, one would logically believe that type of large student following would transition smoothly into basketball season. The student section at football games is overflowing, yet walk into Purcell Pavilion during a basketball game and the stands are (on average) half full. But why? How can students have so much school spirit during the fall and have none during the winter? New Ticket System I’m sure many ...
With the sad ending of the college football season, the ever looming thoughts of who will be declaring for the draft early and who will be on the collegiate field next season begin to take over. No matter how high the player is projected to go in the draft it is always hard to watch a good player leave early. As a student, who lives and works alongside many of these athletes that are faced with the decision to forgo a senior year and declare for the draft or hope that their senior year lives ...
With the ending of football season nearing, I'm sure you are all wondering, “what will I watch now”?! Well, did you know Notre Dame actually has a men’s basketball team! And they are pretty good, too! I promise they can fill the void of no more football. The students have jumped on the bandwagon to becoming a basketball school and its time for other people to jump on, too. Don’t believe me about the potential of this team and the support they deserve? Here’s a couple reasons: Last ...
It is all fun and games during the holiday season until you have to decide what presents to get people. Do not stress, I have contracted a list of the top gift your college students NEEDS and some they just want. In no particular order the list is as followed: Portable charger Parents, ever heard the “oh, sorry my phone died” excuse when your son or daughter didn’t answer your 10 texts and 3 calls? A portable charger takes that excuse and throws it into the garbage. Your student will ...
Going home is all fun and games until you experience a Notre Dame football game away from your Home Under the Dome. The biggest issue is that friends from home just DO NOT understand the seriousness of when Notre Dame plays. I must watch the game at home because - in true Notre Dame fashion - the team will most likely cause me great anxiety along with a heart attack (or two) during the game. Home-town friends also do not understand that if Notre Dame loses, I will not be hanging out after. I ...
“Welcome to Notre Dame.” Our last home game is upon us (que lots of tears). Let’s make this GameDay the best of one, yet. The first and probably most important tip is to BRING LAYERS (and a good attitude) because it’s South Bend. It could be 75 degrees or it could be -10 degrees, we are never really sure, so come prepared! If you aren’t big into lines and fighting the masses for all that swaggy Notre Dame Under Armour apparel, then I would recommend coming to campus on the ...
Collegiate athlete: They are super stars to the rest of the world, but to students, they really are just STUDENT-athletes. Many people may not know that incoming freshman at Notre Dame have no voice in what dormitory they live in or who their roommate will be. An e-mail is sent out a few weeks prior to move in week with your dorm and your roommate(s) name, then the Facebook stalking scramble starts. Imagine getting that email and the name being Malik Zaire, Tarean Folston, or Jerry Tillery - ...
It’s the dreaded bye weekend for Notre Dame football. Well, maybe only the students and fans find a weekend without Notre Dame football playing a travesty, while the players may love and need the rest - especially after the impressive first half of the season we have had. What are Irish fans supposed to do on Saturday if our favorite boys will not be taking the field? 1. Re-watch the USC game Missed the blocked punt? Missed Torii Hunter Jr turn into a QB? No better time than a bye week to ...
It is easy to write about how thankful the students and team are to play USC after a win. But even after a loss, the Notre Dame family should still be thankful for the USC rivalry. This season, the Irish will not play famed rival Michigan, nor Michigan State, or in state rival Purdue. Instead, Notre Dame will be replacing many of these rivalries with 5 ACC opponents each year. Thankfully, for all of us, USC stayed on the schedule. USC and Notre Dame have been playing since 1926, with 87 ...
