Anders Lee Called Up by the New York Islanders

Anders Lee does the mouth-piece thing! (Mike Stobe)

The New York Islanders announced earlier this week that former Notre Dame forward, Anders Lee, was called up from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League.

In the 54 games that he has played this season, Lee has scored 41 point (22 goals and 19 assists) for the Sound Tigers. His 22 goals lead the Sound Tigers for the year and ranks him second among AHL rookies. Lee was drafted in the sixth round by the Islanders in the 2009 NHL Draft.

Lee earned three monograms in three seasons at Notre Dame and was the team captain his junior year.  He signed a two-year, entry-level contract with the Islanders on April 1, 2013. He appeared in two NHL games in that  2012-2013 season, and scored his first NHL goal in his first NHL game, on his first shot on April 2 versus Winnipeg. Outstanding.

The Islanders resume their schedule following the Olympic break tonight, February 27th, at home versus the Toronto Maple Leafs, at 7pm ET.

In Notre Dame hockey news, tickets for ND’s first round Hockey East playoff game are on sale now online at UND.com/tickets or via the phone at 574-631-7356.

The single-game, first-round contest will be played on Saturday, March 8, at 7:05 p.m., at the Compton Family Ice Arena against an undetermined opponent. The winner moves on to the Hockey East Quarterfinals round that is a best-of-three series that will be played March 14-16 at one of the top four seeds in the conference.

Notre Dame season ticket holders already have their playoff tickets, as they were included in their season ticket package. Season ticket holders should use the ticket marked – “Hockey East – Game 1.”

Cheers & Go Irish!

Considering Tavares is gone for the season (as well as Vanek by the deadline) Anders is going to get a good look in the next month. Best of Luck to one of our boys!
