Well, it might be time to start talking about “IrishMob14”.
Notre Dame continues to surge in the recruiting world as it received its first pledge for the Class of 2014 in Woodberry Forest, VA linebacker Greer Martini (yep, have a drink for that one guys).
Here’s what Martini told IrishSportsDaily about his commitment:
“I was just sitting there with my dad and it was just such a relief. I was just so happy because I can get a great education at Notre Dame and just great football. We’re just so excited as a family to have that opportunity […] How can you go wrong with Notre Dame?”
Recently, there has been some debate about the merits of high school kids getting offers and pledging commitments so early, but I don’t think Brian Kelly will be upset to have another one on board right now.
Let’s keep ’em coming.

Aye … this is just so crazy. Do people realize his most up to date game film is a FULL 3 YEARS from when he could even take a snap in college? He’s only halfway done with high school!
I continue to praise Kelly, Diaco & Co. relentless work on the recruiting trail, but with the resources and prestige of the ND’s, OU’s, USC’s, FSU’s, etc., etc. is it necessary to even offer a 15 year old? Are we fearful of anyone who’s already offered a kid and our ability to get his ear for long enough to secure a visit?
This is sure to get some quick downvotes as if I’m some 60 year old carmudgeon alum who thinks any red blooded American should commit to ND on the spot whenever the offer comes, but I can assure you I’m just someone trying to be rational about a recruiting ecosystem on the brink of completely screwing over great kids and multiple major programs.

So, our 2014 class is only one or two commits behind that school in Chestnut Hill’s 2013 class? Loltastic.

It took me a couple of seconds for that to sink in…but when it did, I lol-ed.
