If you were having trouble getting your Michigan hate going, Jim Harbaugh’s got you covered. Rumors have surfaced that Harbaugh is eyeing an exit strategy off the Michigan Titanic he’s captaining, but, honestly, the rumors didn’t even hit my radar.

Even if they did, I wouldn’t have bothered making a post about it to be honest. Harbaugh, however, couldn’t leave well enough alone and this happened:

Jim Harbaugh refutes rumors of interest in the NFL: "I don't even have an agent or representative." pic.twitter.com/SyHDn3rsO2
— Sam Webb (@SamWebb77) October 23, 2019

Congrats, everyone. As Michigan’s sworn enemies, we have apparently run/participated in a disinformation campaign that’s so good, no one is even aware of it other than a steak-eating-milk-drinking-kahki-wearing coach up north (worst Ric Flair promo ever).

That part is just funny, but what’s stoking my Michigan rancor are a couple of whoppers that Harbaugh threw out in his effort to “fake news” the rumors and keep making Michigan great again, or something.

“I don’t even have an ‘agent or represtative.'”

Really? Who the hell is this then?!

Not only is that link from a Michigan blog, but there are literal photos from an EPSN reporter detailing a day in the life of this guy.

Perhaps the “trusted agent” is not fully an agent in a traditional, 10% off the top sense, but you’re telling me a guy that opens Harbaugh’s mail wouldn’t try to represent his interests and communicate on his behalf?

Sure. Makes sense. Couldn’t possibly see Harbaugh asking someone like that to go kick some tires to give him a degree of separation. Nope. Not at all.

“I am committed to your sons.”

Let’s turn the clock back to a recent edition of the Friday Roundup (RIP):

Oh hey, here’s a shocker, Jim Harbaugh might be a dick. Remember when Harubaugh went on the radio and said, because of current transfer rules, kids might make up a mental health disorder? Well, it turns out he may have just had a specific athlete in mind ($) when he said that and the picture isn’t a pretty one. None too pleased with his portrayal in this tale, Harbaugh decided to fire back at Cincinnati head coach Luke Fickell, who then fired back at Harbaugh once again.

Harbaugh is so concerned about your son, he’ll proactively make up some bullshit under the guise of actually giving a damn about mental health because he knows your son walked out the door and he’s going to make sure he makes that, ahem, exit strategy as painful as possible for him. Bonus caring: he’ll then attack the new coach trying to stick up for your kid.

Please excuse the informality of this rant, Jim

But you’re full of shit.

The only “annual strategy” that’s causing disruption to Michigan is whatever the hell it is you do on the sideline every year. You’ve done a great job at sowing discord and disappointment all by yourself. You don’t need our help.

To wit, Michigan is once again on track to finish third or worse in your own division. Consistency, after all, is key!

The better argument here would’ve been that you’ve sucked so bad at your alma mater that no NFL GM in their right mind would consider you for a job. After all, no coach has had more success in wearing out their welcome than you have in practically every single stop you’ve made.

Look, just call the rumors something you don’t think deserve the time of day and move on. Stop trying to blow Michigan Man Sunshine up everyone’s ass and then have John U. Bacon write a book about how you’re the good guy in the cesspool of college football, actually.

You suck. Michigan sucks. Michigan will always suck. Enjoy receiving another righteous ass-whipping at the hands of Notre Dame Saturday night.

One of the things that I’ve enjoyed the most in the past couple of years here at HLS has been our focus on our crazy little community. Case in point: @frsorinramblers whom you will find on Twitter, our Discord, and our Twitch Channel.

During our Hot Dog Bye Week podcast, this Loyal Reader revealed that he would spend his bye week Ubering around Ann Arbor during Army/Michigan weekend. Here’s his playlist:

For those keeping score at home, that’s Army’s Fight Song, The Irish Tenors, “Here Come the Irish”, and the Rudy soundtrack. There’s trolling Michigan and then there’s this next-level, real-man-of-genius moment.

I can only imagine the stream of reactions from Michigan fans as they climb into his car and slowly realize the personal hell they have entered. May his Uber rating rest in peace.

As someone who steers this entire site straight into not just the silliness of college football, but also the pettiness and trolling opportunities it offers, I respect the hell out of this effort. Further, I hope his final Uber ride is given to a group of Army fans still buzzing over an upset over the damned Skunkbears.

The Roundup

The misery index is always a fun read, but typically you don’t see “how is this school a festering corpse?!” in week 2, but I guess Tennessee was just willing to jump on that grenade.

Another fun weekly read is the “top whatever” column. However, I think we can keep the absurdity of Hugh Freeze coaching from a hospital bed at #1 forever. It’s all downhill from here–UPDATE: maybe this dumb ride will keep going.

The silly season of the coaching carousel is always a wild ride. But Tom Herman/Coach O saga a couple of years ago at LSU was a damn rollercoaster.

Ian Book is a unicorn. Maybe not the thing you expected to hear from anyone after his performance against Louisville, but he’s a part of a ever-shrinking percentage of college QBs that actually bide their time before they win the starting job.

Notre Dame did take a hit in one poll. Anxiously awaiting a certain subset of fans that trash #sportsmath to now point to the SP+ as the one true poll that actually reflected ND on the eye test.

Bill C had some other non-stat stuff that you should read. This piece is basically a national primer to some of the biggest storylines for various teams around college football and how week 1 affected them.

I think I have a Beaver correspondent now. Had another line dropped about Oregon State’s next game against Hawaii. It will be aired on Facebook Live; however, no one is quite sure exactly where on Facebook it will be. Regardless, my bet is the answer is “in more homes than the Pac 12 network.”

Offer this kid a scholarship immediately. The all-name champion is here and I don’t know how you top this.

Get me back in school. Notre Dame is offering a course discussing The Good Place. Can I take this online? Please?!

#snacktalk has reached epic proportions. Little did I realize our silly podcast would set off a seismic event of a Rudy parody done by KFC, featuring both actual Rudy (meh) and Sean Astin (YAY!). Not only does this fever dream exist, IT’S AMAZING.

Opponent Watch

Number of former ND coaches to roam the opposing sideline: still zero.

The following is a statement from @UNMLoboFB coach Bob Davie. #GoLobos pic.twitter.com/rDgcQQ5YyP
— New Mexico Lobos (@UNMLOBOS) September 5, 2019

These quotes are taken from the narrated tour of campus you can find at faith.nd.edu

“I don’t want to become you. I don’t want to speak your language, I don’t want to celebrate your holidays, I sure as hell don’t want to cheer for your soccer team!”

This quote is taken from Lou Holtz’s comments at the Republican National Coalition for Life event today. Maybe his swag bag last night gave him the liquid courage needed.

Lou Holtz seriously brought a bottle of Crown Royal into the Republican National Convention. Pro old man move. pic.twitter.com/bjL5vTPcOX

— Ross Bolen (@WRBolen) July 19, 2016

We here at HLS have been critical of Lou, of late. In February, we hit his appearance at Michigan’s National Signing Day. In May, we went after his endorsement of The Donald.

While I’m holding out hope that all of 2016 has been the work of a Lou Holtz impersonator and not the sincerely held beliefs of our collective grandfather, I’m officially over the guy.

I feel incredibly sad about this. The grandson of Ukrainian, German and Irish immigrants, Lou’s very name honors his son-of-immigrants-uncle, Lou Tychonievich. No word on whether he was forced to watch soccer. Which if you’ve ever watched Rangers, or England take penalties in a major tournament, can be very painful to watch, indeed.

(correction: the original text of this post has been corrected, changing “Russian” to “Ukrainian.”)

When you’ve made the money you have off of not just coaching THE IRISH but off of your reputation as the head coach of THE IRISH, you just can’t speak in such broad-brush strokes.

I guess WE ARE ND means something different to Lou.

With National Signing Day now behind us, the offseason begins in earnest.

It’s definitely a mixed bag. On the one hand, it gives us all here at HLS time to breathe a little bit without having to worry about the next game or being ready to analyze a recruiting class at the drop of hat. On the other, we will all go a little stir crazy while waiting for the Blue/Gold game.

Despite that, the Roundup will still go strong, grabbing on to every last piece of football news while we await for the next kickoff. And this week, the signing day craziness brings us quite the solid haul, so let’s get to it.

The Roundup

Before National Signing Day happened, the NCAA fell on their face. Their VP paid the lawyer of Miami booster, Nevin Shapiro, to grill him in order to gather evidence against Miami. The Hurricanes have a legitimate beef about this because these actions have opened up a giant can of worms.

Even Michigan players really don’t like Michigan. I’m sure Skunkbear fans were thrilled to hear one of their recruits will be a Buckeye fan until the day he dies.

Urban Meyer isn’t impressed, Big Ten. I really want to be a fly on the wall for the Urban Meyer Recruiting 101 session during the Big Ten meetings. It’s going to be even better if the Big Ten steps up their game only to have Meyer steal their most prized recruits.

File this under the craziest story for this year’s signing day. Mother steals son’s LOI, son gets father to help him actually sign LOI, and mother hires lawyer. These are all things that actually happened.

Clemson really loves Twilight y’all. I’m not even sure what to say about this.

Remember when Tommy Tuberville bailed on a steak dinner with a recruit and then took the Cincinnati job? Texas Tech fans sure didn’t. Their response? Send Tuberville a menu! I tip my hat to my fellow Texans on this one.

Finally, here’s EDSBS’ breakdown of signing day. Because the entire circus needs a little bit of humor.

The <del>Beer</del> Booze

So it’s my birthday today, and while I love beer, I’m calling an audible. Bring on the whiskey.

As always during Hate Week, we at HLS have been spewing a good load of Michigan hate. The IBG was focused on it, and Bayou gave some great historical context as to why Michigan deserves our hatred. Inevitably, the open letter from Blue-Gray Sky (RIP) to Michigan’s fans finds itself linked on at least one Notre Dame site as well.

But this week isn’t just about hate, it’s about vengeance.

And no, this isn’t vengeance for a prank pulled by Skunkbears. If we get worked up about Denard’s future burial shroud being put up on the stadium, our focus is already off.

No, this is about three years of watching ND fall to Michigan by four points for three consecutive years, culminated by the most inexplicable combination of absurd luck for Michigan coupled by a complete meltdown by the Irish defense in the last thirty seconds. In fact, all three of those games featured Michigan game-winning touchdowns with less than a minute left. We’ve managed to make Tate freakin’ Forcier look like a stud and Denard Robinson look like a Heisman frontrunner.

Saturday it ends.

This is easily the biggest game in years and the Irish simply can’t let up on the gas now. As great as this 3-0 start has been, a repeat of the past three years can undo it all. The “signature win” against Michigan State turns into “Notre Dame can’t get it done when the spotlight is on them”, leading back to the all too familiar “here we go again” mentality that we’ve had to suffer through for years.

It ends Saturday. It ends when Manti Te’o, Stephon Tuitt, and the rest of the Irish defense bring Denard back to earth. It ends when the Golson-led offense continues to put it together (and most importantly doesn’t turn the ball over five times).

Plus, this guy is still on their team:

It’s time to kick some Skunkbear ass.

The Roundup

Speaking of people we hate: Lane Kiffin. He decided to storm off from a press conference thirty seconds after it started. USC’s policy forced the question to be muted, but, thankfully, the exclusive audio has been released.

Also adding to my rage: Penn State. Ok, to be fair it isn’t all of Penn State, but the fans that just won’t let it go.

There was a “football” game last night. I use the term loosely because this actually happened, this ended up being the game winning TD, and BYU decided to go for two and failed to lose 7-6. I don’t even…

This whole Arkansas experiment isn’t working out so well. Their season is quickly becoming a disaster, which isn’t so good for Johnelle who might just need the job.

I suppose this is one way to show support for our allies. The Navy Midshipmen salute South Korea…by going Gangnam Style. I feel like we have the makings of a Top Gun sequel here, you guys. (Related: make sure you see the Oregon duck take his shot at this)

Games to Put on Your Radar

Sadly this week is heavily loaded in the primetime schedule. For those not attending the game, you can spoil yourself with some great games.

#10 Clemson @ #4 Florida State, 8:00pm EST, ABC – Twibby’s Marquee Matchup of the Week

#15 Kansas State @ #6 Oklahoma, 7:50pm EST, FOX – This is Oklahoma’s first true test (if you don’t count their close call with UTEP). It’ll be interesting to see how this one shakes out.

#22 Arizona @ #3 Oregon, 10:30pm EST, ESPN/WatchESPN – Once the ND game ends, use this as your victory nightcap. It’s Oregon’s first real test, plus a shot for RichRod to prove that his team is for real or just show that Oklahoma State is really awful and that upset meant nothing.

Predictions

Tex: I originally thought this game would be close…but ‘eff that. There is too much to avenge here, plus the atmosphere is going to be rocket fuel for the entire team to rally around Manti Te’o. RIP Denard. 31-10 ND

Biscuit: Screw those Dancing Leprechauns! ND Wins 23-21!

Bayou: ND 27 scUM 17

Twibby: Denard’s run of breaking my heart comes to an end this Saturday. The Irish dont put up 500 yards like last year, but they also don’t turn the ball over 5 times and DO turn around and look at incoming wobbling duck passes. ND 31 – Michigan 21

Grantland-X: We absolutely stomp Denard this time around – 34-13 Irish

Closest to the pin – Week 3: Bayou was the only staff member to predict any serious margin for an Irish win, so he gets the glory. He joins both Biscuit and myself on the leaderboard.

The Beer

Reader’s choice.

No, I’m not doing a lazy cop-out — hear me out.

If you are attending this game, I want you to tailgate with your favorite poison of choice. I want you to consume loads of it. I want that stadium so loud that when I walk out my ears are ringing. Hell, if you aren’t at the game, I want you to be the loudest fan in the bar. If you are staying at home, I want the neighbors to hear you.

And while Her Loyal Sons are marching onward to victory I want you to enjoy whatever you consider to be the sweet nectar of life in celebration.
