August 30, 2012 by Twibby

Throughout the 2012 season, Her Loyal Sons and the Subway Domer, Keith Arnold's Inside the Irish, and UND's Strong and True blog will be participating in the rebirth of the Irish Blogger Gathering. The Subway Domer explained the details on his site last week: ...

HLS Staff: 2012 Notre Dame Season Predictions

August 30, 2012 by Twibby

Instead of sitting around and sulking while wishing we were vacationing in Dublin, the HLS team got together to predict the 2012 Irish regular season record. Biscuit, NDtex, Bayou Irish, Grantland-X and myself all agree that ND will beat Navy this weekend, but from there we all see things shaking out a little bit differently. ...

Tommy Rees IS Matt Saracen

August 20, 2012 by Twibby

For those of you that haven’t watched all 5 seasons of Friday Night Lights, please go watch all of it as soon as you finish reading this post. Seriously, do it. I was late to the FNL game, but some of my wise friends convinced me that if I was a clear-eyed football fan I needed to start watching. In the middle of sipping on an ice-cold brew and watching season 3 earlier this summer, it hit me like a Crazy Train: Tommy Rees IS Matt Saracen. For those of you that aren’t fans of the show, ...

Rick Reilly is Lazy and Wrong

August 16, 2012 by Twibby

Every time Rick Reilly puts out a new piece a friend of mine and I inevitably end up spending (far too much) time complaining to each other about how Reilly, who ESPN consistently reminds us won something like 72 Sportswriter of the Year awards, has either thrown in the towel on actually trying to put out a quality product or has completely lost his journalistic abilities as he’s aged. During his prime his column was the first page I flipped to every week when I received my Sports Illustrated ...

ND Opponent Update: Fall Camp

August 15, 2012 by Twibby

As we close in on the beginning of the 2012 season, I decided to take the Twibby Bus around the country to check up on each of the Irish opponents. The grueling journey ended with the discovery of plenty adverse effects from NCAA sanctions, a trio of unfit sailors, a couple of quarterback question marks, and a lot of injured offensive linemen. Updates are listed in the order of the ND schedule. Like Everett Golson trying to get used to the playbook, I am still trying to get figure out HLS 3.0 ...

Brian Kelly 2.0

August 6, 2012 by Twibby

In the press conference following Notre Dame's first fall practice of the 2012 season on Saturday, Brian Kelly was asked a question about how the leadership on the team was developing with Harrison Smith and Michael Floyd now playing in the NFL, and BK took the opportunity to dive into some self reflection he went through over the offseason and to explain how that has changed the approach he is taking this year. It started back in January when I was committed to being a better head coach in the ...

Know Thyself, Know Thy Enemy: Tight End

July 26, 2012 by Twibby

The “Know Thyself, Know Thy Enemy” series continues today with tight ends – one of the easiest positions to choose for the Irish, and one of the most difficult positions to pick out for Notre Dame’s opponents. Tyler Eifert Position: Tight End Year: Senior Height/Weight: 6’6”/251 lbs. Tyler Eifert had a breakout game at Yankee Stadium in 2010 We all know Eifert’s story – seemingly average recruit; doesn’t play freshman year; fills in when Rudolph gets hurt; turns out to catch ...

Know Thyself, Know Thy Enemy: Safety

July 19, 2012 by Twibby

So far this week we’ve broken down the best players for the Irish and their opponents at punter/kicker, the offensive line and the defensive line. Today we take a look at safety – a position group with starters that have a lot of years at Notre Dame under their belt but a minimal amount of depth behind them. Jamoris Slaughter Position: S Year: 5th Year Senior Height/Weight: 6'0"/200 lbs. Jamoris Slaughter picks off Andrew Luck in 2010 Fifth-year senior Jamoris Slaughter will be ...

Anzalone Makes 17 for the #IrishMob13

July 9, 2012 by Twibby

Notre Dame added the 17th commitment to its 2013 recruiting class over the weekend, with LB Alex Anzalone of Wyomissing, PA pledging to play for the Irish. Anzalone, who had previously been committed to Ohio State, chose the Irish over Penn State and Florida. (Get in on the discussion on our Sideline Forums) Anzalone’s commitment likely rounds out what is an incredible linebacker haul by Brian Kelly (with Jaylon Smith, Danny Mattingly, and Michael Deeb having previously committed). While ...

What if Samardzija had chosen the NFL over MLB?

July 5, 2012 by Twibby

After reminiscing about one of my favorite Notre Dame memories involving Jeff Samardzija last week, I got to thinking about the Shark’s decision to pursue a career in baseball rather than the NFL in 2007. Earlier this season I had the fortune of watching Samardzija absolutely dominate the Cardinals at Wrigley Field, and while I am a fan of the pathetic Cubbies I couldn’t help but think I would rather see the Shark donning a Bears #83 jersey instead. In 2012, his first full season as a starter ...
