Greetings, football degenerates.

The dawn of a new season is upon us, and that also means we’re ready for #HLSrecap 3: #HLSrecap With A Vengeance.

You probably know the drill by now — we watch ND Football together, we tweet our thoughts & reactions in real-time, and the best tweets from each game make it into #HLSrecap. Then we award points and helmet stickers based on whims concrete evidence and ability, and then in the spring, we melt down the internet with a totally fair and not at all shady voting system #HLSrecapMadness. And once every 125 years or so, they replace grass with field turf, and we chronicle that also. Spoiler Alert: Shamrock Series uniforms haven’t yet been unveiled.

How Does It Work?

#HLSrecap is high art, but there are ways to make the system work in your favor. Make sure I’m following you on Twitter (if not, send me a message there). I’m putting a new emphasis on quality over quantity this year, and it’s worth your while to tweet during games since each week the #HLSrecap MVP gets free whiskey. Read on for more detailed recommendations — experienced tweeps can leave other helpful hints the comments.

Tips & Tricks for #HLSrecap Inclusion

• Pregame tweets? Unlikely. Postgame tweets? Meh. In-game tweets? YAIS
• Pop culture references are always encouraged
• In a tight spot, irrational bargaining with / promises to a Deity usually help.
• Haiku. Or rhyming couplets.
• When it goes wrong (and it WILL go wrong) & you’re tempted to leave @NDfootball, opt instead for gallows humor.
• ND Football is life. Tweet how it relates to Laws of Thermodynamics, that book/TV/movie, or last week’s homily.
• Proper spelling & its/it’s usage (except when under emotional duress). This isn’t the SEC after all…
• Puns. The worse (better?), the better.
• Double entendres, but preference given to PG-13 versions. Minimize vulgarities & graphic images (think of clever substitutes!). If we go to 3OT, everything’s permitted.

Can I Practice Between Now and Kickoff?

Indeed. You’ll have at least a couple opportunities:

• Shamrock Series uniforms should get released later today — you may want to clear your work schedule
• During the season, you may want to keep your Thursday evenings clear… #foreshadowing
