Just Askin’

October 7, 2010 by The Biscuit

Inspired by BK’s Interview with SI, DMQ and I (well, really just me for sure – I haven’t asked DMQ) thought we’d open up to HLS readers a bit about….whatever you want.

So, what do you want to know? About us, about ND, about ND Football, about the blog, whatever. Shoot us your questions at the gmail type address to the right, or type them in the comments, and we’ll do our best to answer. There are probably a couple questions we can’t/won’t answer (not going to tell you what those are), so fire away!

And if you have nothing to ask and this is extremely egotistical and I’m a d-bag for assuming you’d be interested in asking us something/our answers….well, then, just stay silent and ignore this post entirely, yeah? Yeah.

So, Just Ask Away!

Biscuit, how do you and DMQ know each other? And who can drink more?

How much can you bench press?

      350. You?

In all honesty, for me its 435…..when I was 18. Then, somehow, all the weight up in my chest started sinking down more towards my midsection. Now, I try to lift nothing heavier than 12 oz.

Since DMQ answered this quick one here. at ND, I maxed at 365. Today I have literally no idea. Less. But I’m much less of a meathead now too, so, I guess it balances out.

Why do white people love Wayne Brady?

  4. Brad

    October 8, 2010 at 6:44 am

Shit, I got more questions than that…

1)If trapped on an island with a reincarnated Bo Schembechler, Pete Carroll, DickRod, Urban Meyer, and David Gordon, and you have a gun with only 4 bullets, who do you shoot and why?

    2) In college: beer bonging til things get ugly, or grain alcohol riot punch til you blackout? Discuss the merits and drawbacks of each.

    3) Favorite ritual/tourist attraction/tradition about Notre Dame/gameday and why. What is over/under rated?

    4) Best spot to tailgate?

    5) What is the first and best drink to start off a 6 am tailgate?

    6) How do you keep your livers so strong, and what kind of exercises/stretches can we folks do at home to keep our livers in shape.

    7) Favorite opponents stadium.

    8) Would you wrather have ND win and lose to the teams we are supposed to, or lose a headscratcher and have a miraculous, no-way-we-should-win-this-game upset?

    9) Best place to defile yourself following a gameday in South Bend.

    10) You can only play 5 songs on a loop throughout your entire tailgate. What are they?

    11) People often complain that ND can’t compete due to the administrative/atmospheric/academic/self-imposed challenges. If you’re in charge of the University, and you get to change anything about it, what change would you most want to make that you think would ensure the longterm success of the football team while still keeping the University what it is.

(P.S. Hiring John Blake as DL coach is not a valid answer.)

Brad, top notch, my friend. Id love to see the guys respond to that.

    Heres some from me:
    1. IYO, what is the best wayto travel to ND from Chi town? Take the train, taxi in, Victory Liquors-type bus, rent a car & park in a lot? Grades will be calculated on atmosphere, cost, price, & fan-related aspects

    2. Wtf is wrong with prep rallies?

    3. Are there any gameday traditions you still like attending?

    4. Have you ever gotten into an altercation with an oppposinf fan after any gm youve been to at ND?

    5. Would you rather kick NDSP or ISEP?

    • Jarett

      October 8, 2010 at 2:15 pm

I am neither one of these guys, but 5 – ISEP, no contest.

    1) What is your first Notre Dame football memory?
    2) When did you fall in love with Notre Dame?
    3) What is your most painful Notre Dame football memory? (A: Unquestionably for this fan, the clipping call that nullified Rocket’s punt return against Colorado, Orange Bowl, 1990).

Brad’s questions are clearly the best ever. Should there be any need for filler, I submit these:

    1. Where do you find the time?

    2. We all knew BlueGraySky was the greatest blog ever. No offense, but it’s true. What’s the best one now?

    3. Puppet shows — is there anything better than those and will you guys be doing something similar?

    4. Quarterback situation going into next year — where are we? Firehouses across China watched the Michigan game and chuckled. Are we in for more “chaos by committee” or is there hope on the horizon?

    5. Do any women read your blog?

    Keep up the awesomeness, boys.

    • Nate

My wife, ND ’00, reads it, so yes to #5.

These are great, thanks guys. Keep ’em coming. We’ll have to do a mini series as some of these will require mini essays, but really digging it. Brad, well done. You will get answers.

Not even knowing the answer, I am gonna go out on a limb and suggest that the woman just might be Notre Dame, Our Mother, The Lady on the Dome, etc. etc.

The Mother of God is pretty easy to love, but Brad, really that answer however true it might be has no hint of sordidness to it. I was hoping Biscuit and Domer would spin some soap- operish story to tide us over to the Pitt game.

    October 8, 2010 at 11:29 am

Brad, I realy like your question one. I would like to try to answer that one, and see how my answer would compare to the HLS guys.
Bullet 1, Pete Carroll because he cheats.
Bullet 2, David Gordon, why not?
Bullet 3, Urban Meyer, the wait for him would be awful, considering he could be at ND.
Bullet 4, well…I would go for broke. Both suck having been affiliated with Michigan (sucks!!). So I would have Bo stand with DickRod behind him back to back hoping to do a two for one.

    • Brad

      October 8, 2010 at 12:36 pm

In all honesty, that is a tough one that I can’t even really answer.

I would want Pete Carroll dead, but I also feel like life as a guy known for cheating is good punishment for him. Plus, it’d be nice to have someone ‘really jacked’ and ‘jazzed’ to be stuck on an island with. Optimism would help.

I think you could also probably trust that Bo would kill DickRod with his bare hands given enough time on the island to catch him, and possibly die sometime later while thinking about his beloved team running 4-5 wide with running QB.

Then, I’d probably unload the entire gun into David Gordon’s face and try to pistol whip Urban to death.

What do your wives/gf say about this blog and the time you spend on it?

  15. alli

    October 8, 2010 at 12:35 pm

    Brad’s question one:

    Pete Carroll, all 4 bullets.

    • tjak

      October 8, 2010 at 3:52 pm

      Urban Meyer all four bullets.

  16. everloyal

    October 8, 2010 at 2:00 pm

first three bullets: line up bo, meyer, gordon, dick, and shoot through the torso, dominoes style.

Then: Talk to Pete for a while. He is a fascinating character, as much as we hate him. He would be a great conversationalist on a deserted island with funny stories.

When I’m finally sick of Petey, the last bullet is for me.

There’s been a lot more traffic on the blog this year. Is that because you guys have really hit your stride with amusing and insightful posts, or because the folks over at BGS hung up their boots?

    • Matt

      October 8, 2010 at 11:28 pm

I’m one of the latter. I checked in at HLS every week or so, but BGS was my go-to blog. This is now my #2 stop after NDNation.

  18. tjak

    October 8, 2010 at 11:38 pm

I start here and then go to ISD, then NdNation and then Keith Arnold at NBC. I then try UHND and then subwaydomer. I sometimes go to Rakes of Mallow and maybe Irish Creed. Clashmore Mike is okay. Bottomline I go where there is new stuff. HLS at the very least does not hold back. I just need a place to sound off and this seems to be it. I like the people here and hate the panickers at NDNation and the other sites.

  19. trey

    October 9, 2010 at 10:57 am

I found this blog by way of NDnation, but I rarely read that anymore.
I whole heartedly disagree that BGS was better than this blog. I can see why a lot of people liked it, but it was too much thinking for my tastes. I like the irreverence here and it’s much more like guys hanging around a bar drinking beer. I also like Subway Alumni because of that fact and, well I am one too.
