Subway Domer once again wrangled the cats together so that we'll all do this roundtable-type-sorta discussion once a week. Sort of like the weekly meetings with which so many of you may be familiar, minus the stale donuts and coffee. And we don't bother to introduce ourselves because, after what happened last year, none of us can stand to look at one another. Ahem. Anyway, this week, Domer Law Blog cross-examines us with the following questions... My season preview included music ...
Walk-On Injured 24 Notre Dame Players
It hurts that so many of the lines in this bit are funny because they're so dead-on. Not funny in an outlandish way. Funny in a "let's just laugh it off and hope it's wrong" way. "He's really powerful and fast," 255-pound defensive end John Ryan said of Novak."I'm glad he's on our team because looking at the guys we have, he's our only hope if we want to beat USC, Nevada, or really anybody." "He's a much better leader than Jimmy [Clausen], that's fore sure," Ryan added. "Better ...
BEST WISHES TO TOM REYNOLDS IN THE 65TH YEAR OF HIS HUMAN INTERNSHIP
Good thinking, Tom. You've got one static billboard that's costing you a fortune and will have to come down eventually. We've got the internet, cheap hosting, nightly backups, half a brain, a long memory, and a lot longer on this earth than you, you pseudo-simian waste of resources. Turns out B&G had it right. It was Tom Reynolds, "former ND football player," who placed that obnoxious billboard across the street from campus and right next to a billboard advertising Hannah and Friends, ...
What A Weird Billboard
Apparently during Weis' presser today, he was asked about this billboard (below) that was placed across the street from Notre Dame's campus. BlueAndGold.com attributed it to a very seldom used, former ND player from way, way, way back in the Ara Parseghian era named Tom Reynolds. No idea if that's true. We never heard of the guy. I don't have the faintest idea if Tom Reynolds ever played for Notre Dame, attended Notre Dame, or was ever even slightly related to Notre Dame. We tried googling ...
You’re So Predictable: Opening Weekend FAIL
Three traditionally major college football programs (including 1 with real student-athletes), have an actual opportunity to suffer an opening weekend loss because their programs are in some sort of state of flux. One hopes to take the momentum from a bowl game all the way through the offseason. One hopes the first freshman starting QB doesn't end an era. One hopes their coach doesn't embarrass them by crying because then he might get embarrassed himself and make the team run more. A lot ...
Running Short
Much very deserved blame has been laid at the feet of the feeble Notre Dame offensive line over the last 2 years for the Irish's pathetic running game. Coming in at #100 in rushing offense in 2008, it's not hard to see why. At the same time, some grumblings have been heard regarding the Irish RB stable's ability to break a big play. After all, teams that are patient with the run aren't really seeking to only gain 3 or 4 yards on each carry. The entire reason for being patient with the ...
Resurrection: The Miracle Season That Saved Notre Dame
Resurrection: The Miracle Season that Saved Notre Dame I read a lot of books. That's not to say that I've completed reading a lot of books. I'm usually reading 3 or 4 books at a time, and typically only complete one if any. I'm a MTV generation kid. I was born with a remote control in my hand. And I own an impressive library of partially read books. My wife both marvels and shakes her head at my reading habits. All at once, I learn a great deal from my readings while often failing ...
2009 ND vs. Opposition Draft: HLS’s 7th Round Pick – #40
Over the summer of 2009, folks from The Blue-Gray Sky, Classic Ground, Rakes of Mallow, and Her Loyal Sons held a mock draft from a pool of talent consisting of the rosters of the 2009 Notre Dame Fighting Irish and their opponents for that season. As the season approaches, we're presenting our picks in hopes of sparking some debate and helping the ND fanbase better know the ND team and their opposition. Round: 7 Pick: 40 Player: Colin Kaepernick School: Nevada Position: ...
Lou Holtz’s Prediction is Improbable
I had set out to title this post, "Lou Holtz is Wrong." I got home after a very busy Saturday (even had time to hit Bed Bath & Beyond!) and discovered the internets asploded all over my desk over this prediction: Now, for those of you who scored poorly on the comprehension bits of various standardized tests, let me point out: Lou isn't arguing that ND IS, currently, one of the 2 best teams in the country. Lou isn't saying that ND will be 1 of the 2 best college football playing ...
Friday Roundup: The “Big Flirt” Edition
A picture because we're feeling picture-lite on the site. Mother Nature, you coy little thing. You're working with Fate today, aren't you? Casting that blue-gray sky over my head as I find myself needing hot coffee while I peruse the morning's college football news. Making sure it smells like football. Real football. Not South Carolina two-a-days football, but crisp-air, orange leaf, bratwurst cookin' in the morning light football. Reminding me that the season is oh so close and summer ...
