With the advent of the College Football Playoff in 2014, we — the Elvii of college football — have joined together to present our weekly playoff nominations to keep the selection committee honest. We call it the T.C.B. Poll.
Playoff Rankings: Week 6
Each week, the T.C.B. Poll is an aggregate of all our inputs. Scroll down to see individual selections and opinions — this is how we’d like to see the College Football Playoff if we had to narrow the field *right now* to determine a national champion. Images courtesy The Helmet Project.

No change in my poll:
- Ohio State – You stay #1 until you lose
- TCU – Or I guess Baylor could go here as well…I’m picking the Horned Frogs for now.
- Michigan State – power. November 21 playing Ohio State going to be fun.
- LSU – Louisiana is home to one of the United States’ most powerful natural resources – Leonard Fournette.
@AuburnElvis
This playoff is going to be nuts. I swear, if we end up with a Clemson vs. Cal National Championship, I’m moving to Canada.
- SEC Champion (Texas A&M) – This is the only pick that’s consistently looked strong for me.
- Utah – I moved them up because only UCLA, the Ole Miss of the Pac-12, stands in their way.
- TCU – K-State is tricky, and the Wildcats will trip up some other Big12 contender. But the Horned Frogs cleared this hurdle (barely) and that puts them in the driver’s seat.
- B1G Champion (Michigan State) – Each week, I have less confidence (or interest) in who I think will be the B1G Champion. But the rules say there will be one, and I believe that team will make it into the playoff because there’s no way Clemson doesn’t Clemson… despite what Dabo might say.
@HawkeyeElvis
Almost to the mid-way point of the season! Has anybody really looked unbeatable? Nope. Well, maybe Michigan as of late. The Wolverines don’t quite make the cut in this week’s Hawkeye Elvis Top Four. But don’t be surprised to see them here next week.
- Ohio State – I was really tempted to move them out of this spot. Let’s see if they are still here in a couple of weeks.
- TCU – I won’t dock the Frogs for their Manhattan Project because Bill Snyder is a wizard. I think they survive the Big 12.
- LSU – Yep. Geaux Tigers. They are my latest pick for SEC Champs.
- Clemson – Yabba Dabo Do. Florida State looked iffy enough on Saturday for me to think the Tigers will be able to sneak in.
On deck – Michigan, Utah, Texas A&M. Hopefully one of these weeks I will be able to (seriously) consider putting my Hawkeyes in here.
@IrishElvis
Kudos to our brother Hawkeye Elvis, who was prominently featured during Iowa’s halftime band performance. My top 4 are undefeated, but there are multiple teams in the wings waiting for a slip-up. We’re halfway through the season, and I’d feel comfortable wagering that ALL of these teams could find themselves outside the playoff picture come season’s end.
- Ohio State: Their current run, even given the QB struggles, is impressive.
- TCU: Tested last week in Manhattan, won’t be tested this week in Ames.
- The Runnin’ Utes: I’m sure multiple preseason pundits had Utah coming out of the Pac-12 South this year…
- Texas A&M: The Aggies win on Saturday and eliminate Alabama from playoff consideration. ‘Bama wins, and they open up this spot for a non-SEC team (probably).
