Yes, the Roundup was slightly delayed today, but I promise you, this is worth the wait.
With college football season just two months away and WWE’s biggest PPV of the summer, SummerSlam, happening this Sunday, I couldn’t help but combine the two. I’ve always maintained that there is a huge overlap in the Venn diagram of college football fans and WWE fans because their popularity isn’t just fed by what happens on the field or in the ring, but by the emotions the games and matches bring about. In fact, if you aren’t a wrestling fan but love college football, I would wager there is a decent chance you’d like pro wrestling for just that reason.
With this in mind I got an idea: I wanted to assign each wrestler appearing at SummerSlam a college football counterpart. It could be a team, a player, a coach, a conference, etc. However, I didn’t want to be the only one taking part in this exercise.
I enlisted the help of Jack Jorgensen. Jack has appeared on my show multiple times back when it was on KVCE and, not only does he cover college football for FanSided.com, he also works with their pro wrestling arm, Daily DDT. I could think of no better guest to do this exercise with.
So enjoy all 90 minutes of pro wrestling all up in your college football podcast. We had a blast and I think you will too.
The Roundup
The Booze
I got Jack in on the booze suggestion for the week, be sure to tune in and check out his suggestion. As for me, I’m going with what I did back the first time I brought pro wrestling into the Roundup: Coors Light.
