Rejected Mottos for the 2015 Notre Dame Football Season

July 14, 2015 by Ryan Ritter

Yesterday, afternoon, Brian Kelly announced, via Twitter, a new motto for the 2015 Notre Dame Football season: “Culture Beats Scheme”.

Our team motto for the year:

CULTURE BEATS SCHEME

Each day is a chance to build our culture on & off the field. pic.twitter.com/uYkZPcoFhV

Any time that Notre Dame releases anything football related, one can’t help but wonder what was left on the cutting room floor. Well, we here at Her Loyal Sons have obtained the list of rejected mottos that were beaten out*:

  • WE’RE GOING TO MAKE IT REALLY CLEAR THAT THIS ISN’T LIKE A CHARLIE WEIS COACHED TEAM, DECIDEDLY
  • TOTALLY NOT ANOTHER KELLY’S MOTTO
  • THE ROAD TO 8-4 STARTS HERE
  • TIME TO COMPLETE THE NFL RESUMÉ
  • SEE YOU AT THE CROSSROADS
  • WIN ONE FOR THE JUMBOTRON
  • ANOTHER YEAR, ANOTHER STARTING QB
  • STOP TURNING THE BALL OVER
  • PREPARE FOR HEARTBREAK
  • ACADEMIC VIOLATIONS ARE BAD, MMMMMMKAY
  • STAY HEALTHY, PLEASE
  • NO, SERIOUSLY, THE ENTIRE DEFENSE CAN’T GET INJURED AGAIN
  • FOUR VERTS VIOLATES PARIETALS
  • MICHIGAN STILL HASN’T SCORED
  • RUN THE DAMN BALL
  • ABANDON ALL HOPE YE RUN THE DAMN BALERS

* May or may not be totally made up and typed with my tongue firmly in my cheek. Thanks for the offseason layup, BK. Go Irish!

    Also:
“Where did the parking lot go?”
    “I miss Irish Chocolate.”
And the always timeless, “Shots? Yeah, shots!”

What about, “Yeah, the ticket price was totally worth it” or “The county cops are your friends”

Let’s not forget that the only game OSU lost last year was the week AFTER they played (and beat) Navy – they lost at home to VT.

“Culture Beats Scheme” – what does that mean? Not to mention that the initials are CBS. I don’t imagine that NBC will be too thrilled about that.

NBC – Nothing Beats Chips (and beer and being able to go outside and pee anytime the need arises, which is frequent when one reaches my stage of development.)

To win – knock the guy in the funny uniform down, help him to his feet, say politely “I’ll be back” and then do it again. And again. Get him to the point that the sun in the South Bend sky becomes his worst nightmare.

Today is Tuesday July 14, and that means that we have reached – 52 and a wakeup!!

You know what Leahy’s motto was every year he coached? “Notre Dame.”

If it was good enough for Leahy, why isn’t it good enough for BK?!?
