Apologies for running behind this week, y’all! Let’s get your Notre Dame predictions rolling so get your entries in before kickoff through the Google form.
As far as last week went…goodness, blood everywhere. Pretty much everyone had an upset and only one person hit the spread correctly! Now that the dust has settled, we have a new leader at the top of the standings. Before we get there though, here are my favorite quotes from the week:
Two weeks to prepare for triple option pays off and the defense shuts down navy’s offense. Our offense gets rolling by pounding the rock with Folston and opens up the pass. Golson with 3-4 TD passes today – Irishyoder1
Bonus point earned for calling both the impressive Folston and Golson performances.
We come out and we’re angry. – Smalls
Even though the score was closer than we all would have liked, this team did certainly play pissed. Point for you!
Maddening, frustrating first quarter, followed by a brilliant second and third. With 8 minutes left in the 4th, buckle your safety belts and return your seat backs and tray tables to their upright and locked positions…we’re heading to Zaire. – stogiesnbeer
I wish this is how the game went. The maddening quarter was the third, which canceled the flight to Zaire.
ND out-rushes Navy. Enough said. – NDSeattle
For most of the game, you were right. For that kind of crazy prediction…hell, I’m giving you the point.
Navy, classically will be out flanked through the air and on the ground. More fittingly, the Navy will be controlled by an Admiral (Junior) and an interception in the third quarter. When in the third and by whom you ask? Mid, Schmidt-man. – @IrishMoonJ
NONE OF THIS HAPPENED! I’m blaming the Schmidt injury on you for this jinx. I AWARD YOU NO POINTS AND MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON YOUR SOUL!
Style points achievement unlocked. – @ManCaveQB
I don’t think this is what we unlocked…

- Called ND Score exactly (1 point): Philly Kelly
Here’s how we’re calling the ND/Arizona State battle in the desert.
|Name||Winner||Score||Prop: Will "glorified byes" be mentioned?||Notes|
|Irish Elvis||Notre Dame||34-27||No|
|Bayou Irish||Notre Dame||52-38||Yes||I've been hinting around, albeit in broad-brush strokes, that the Irish are due for a complete game. Michigan was the last one, IMHO. Great as the game was versus Florida State, we just could stop Jameis in the second half. Or maybe he was (coughpointshavingcoughcough) in the first half. Whatever. I'll go long and say that we get a complete game, even with the loss of Joe Schmidt. Hate me for it (talk to the hand, Molly), but I think that the loss is actually addition by subtraction as Nyles Morgan is a pretty talented prospect. He'll make mistakes, but he's going to bring a level of physicality that ASU cannot scheme against and that is a bit of a November surprise for them. ASU will get their points, but our offense is going to gash them and I think we get the stop when we need to. We're not playing Navy so this will be a fun one to watch.|
|Hls_whisky||Arizona State||27-30||Yes||Frankly, I think the mistakes continue but this time against a team talented enough to take advantage. The stars are aligning against ND in regards to the playoffs but they create their own ending with four turnovers.|
|@ManCaveQB||Notre Dame||24-21||Yes||ASU has struggled on offense lately but their D has stepped up. I think Brian Kelly looks to manage the game and clock more than normal and keep the Irish defense sans-Schmidt off the field. A game that is a bit more grinding than people expect allows Notre Dame's depth and run game to finish off the Sun Devils.|
|SteveinIowa1||Notre Dame||42-35||No||None of the answers I supplied above is likely to happen. SteveinIowa1 is a contra-indicator for ND football.|
|Biscuit||Arizona State||41-45||So ND plays the toughest schedule in the country, and ASU is right behind at #2. This means a long slog for both teams to this point, and likely some injuries to boot. And if things continue as they’ve been at ASU, this team is still really strong on O. And if things come together for the ND O as I expect, this has SHOOTOUT written all over it.
Unfortunately for ND, I think I need to call a random loss that’s an upset. Pitt from last year has me spooked. Now, I could be wrong on where that rule bites us in the…booty, but I think it could be here in a crazy, crazy high scoring trick play laden shootout.
Madness! This is all I can predict, sheer, sheer Madness!
|NDtex||Notre Dame||27-21||Yes||I just don't see a shootout in this one. Any defense that can pressure the QB gives Arizona State fits. Arizona State's defense is far from a slouch and I don't think that Notre Dame will pull away on offense, nor do I think Brian Kelly wants to. Look for a low-scoring affair in which Kelly calls on Folston to help the Irish control the ball and squeak out a comfortable win in which Sparky gets a late junk TD to make the score look better.|
Yes, my cat, Gulliver, may be 1-7 in his straight up winner picks, but he is now 5-3 against the spread, which I’m almost sure is better than my ND spread picks, but I’m too lazy to go through all the previous week’s results to check. Let’s see what he did this week:
Like clockwork by this point. Go Irish!
