So you’re looking for a piece of sacred ground from Notre Dame stadium? Apparently, you’re in luck! Notre Dame has announced that they’re selling off pieces of the stadium field for $149.95 per 10 square foot roll. I know they sold sections of the benches when they did the last stadium expansion. That I understand … it makes a cool addition to any Notre Dame man (or woman) cave. And trust me, I have plenty of Notre Dame “stuff” in my woman cave. But selling pieces of the field? Really? Are we that desperate for money that we have to sell sections of grass from the stadium? Grass that was just installed during the 2013 season mind you. I guess I should applaud them for letting nothing go to waste. Okay, if you really want a piece of the field from Notre Dame stadium, far be it from me to stand in your way. Go ahead, buy away. I just don’t understand why we need to take a piece of tradition and turn it into a profit. Maybe I’m being a bit snarky, but I just don’t see why we have to sell the field.
Anyways, snark aside, if you’re interested in buying a piece of Notre Dame tradition and lore, here’s the 411:

I don’t do snark often, but when I do … #kaboom
“I’LL SHOW ND HOW TO GROW GRASS”
/buys overpriced grass
/dies in a week
I ordered a roll. I’ll put it in my yard, likely, as I think it’d be too hard to nail to the wall. The dirt will probably be crumbly. I’m a little perplexed, though, at the injury disclaimer that comes with: WARNING. THIS PRODUCT MAY CAUSE INJURY TO INCLUDE BROKEN ANKLES, RIPPED KNEES, RUPTURED TENDONS, AND SHATTERED DREAMS. DO NOT USE WITHOUT DUE REGARD FOR PERSONAL SAFETY, REASONABLE EXPECTATIONS.
Nicely done.
Q: “Why is Notre Dame selling the grass turf?”
A: They’d be silly if they didn’t. I posted the first day the announcement was made that they would do that – it’s a no-brainer.
Q: “How much money will they make?”
A: Lots
Q: “Why will people spend this kind of money for something like that?”
A: Because they can and they want other people to KNOW they can
and/or
Because it seems like a good idea.
Nobody’s making anybody buy it.
I guess I just don’t see the value of grass turf that has only been in the stadium for at most 12 months.
I wonder why they’ve never sold it before.
And I would have more happy about it if the money was going to a good cause/charity … but I’m not telling anyone NOT to buy it. I’m just saying that I’m not a fan.
Not even 12 months. Remember, they replaced the turf in the middle of this past season.
I’m much more cynical than you are. Notre Dame is good at a lot of things and making money – lots of it – is one of them.
