#HLSrecapMadness Round of 64: Grass Field Region

March 19, 2014 by IrishElvis

Polls for this round close at 5:00pm ET on Saturday, March 22.

#8 MrMayhem75 vs. #9 WorstRayEver

I just saw Lane Kiffin. He's laying outside the SC locker room, so that the players have something to clean their spikes on.

— Mayhem mm/ (@mrmayhem75) October 20, 2013

I think my hangover is going to be peaking for kickoff. I welcome the pain and channel it into hate.

— raymando (@WorstRayEver) September 7, 2013

Lane Kiffin’s firing just before the ND-SC game kept #HLSrecap regulars scrambling, but Mayhem knows how all SC coaches should be treated. Ray counters by directing hangover misery towards Ann Arbor.

#7 andrewwinn vs. #10 NDsquirrel

Oh, and for anyone that wasn’t clear: Tommy threw that interception because a Catholic University didn’t capitalize god this morning. #NDFB

— Jude (@andrewwinn) November 2, 2013

Did we retire the middle linebacker position when Manti graduated?

— NDSquirrel (@NDSquirrel) September 15, 2013

There was irrational online angst because, prior to the ND-Navy game, a Twitter (or was it Facebook?) hashtag mentioning “God, Country, Notre Dame” was typed in all lowercase…leading to Divine Justice in a football game (or so andrewwinn claims). Earlier in the year, everyone’s favorite campus rodent attributed our defensive tackling woes to graduation of a key player.

#6 Stickamania vs. #11 Irishfootball11

I FEEL LIKE I AM WATCHING A WEIS DEFENSE AND I AM HOLDING MYSELF WHILE LISTENING TO THE MAN IN THE MIRROR ON MY IPOD

— HI MY NAME IS JARED (@Irishfootball11) November 2, 2013

The 2013 campaign was a rocky ride…Stickamania takes the metaphor to its logical extreme. Jared, on the other hand, recalls even darker days (gallows humor is always good for a laugh). I can never keep straight whether these two are best friends or mortal enemies, so I’ll let your votes decide who continues.

#5 oaknd1 vs. #12 R_Pepin91

The Reesus-Jones connection will be going all year long

— Ross Pepin (@R_Pepin91) August 31, 2013

I’m a big fan of pop culture references in #HLSrecap, and these two tweets are some of the finest. Oak channels Simon & Garfunkel, while R_Pepin91 references Jesus Jones when describing a TD pass from Tommy to TJ.

#4 NDEddieMac vs. #13 rakesofmallow

https://twitter.com/NDEddieMac/status/376524831543394305

"Brian, how is my defense looking?" "NOT GREAT, BOB."

— Chris W. (@rakesofmallow) September 15, 2013

The 2013 defense took a step backward from the previous year, and fans expressed their frustration in a variety of ways. Chris rolls with a Mad Men reference during the early moments of Purdue (related question: can we still use this now that Diaco has departed?). Despite the Michigan sorrow, Eddie connects from waaaay downtown with his submission.

#3 tricerapops vs. #14 jvs3

And he will Rees you up, on eagle's wings.

Only Jen can make “sideline ND views with Alex Flanagan” sound like a bad thing. Jesse wasted no time in the opening game (just like our offense!) dropping one of the finest Tommy Rees tweets of the year.

#2 BlogDavie vs. #15 jimboch02

Tuitt is a technological terror similar to the Death Star, but without the design flaws.

— Blog Davie (@BlogDavie) October 20, 2013

You're dead to me, TV's Mark Harmon

— Jim B (@jimboch02) September 8, 2013

Jim spoke for many of us during the Michigan pregame sap-fest, and Blog Davie typed as succinct a description of Stephon Tuitt’s game as I’ve seen this year.

#1 PDXirish vs. #16 Subway_Sprout

Cotton candy, sweet to go/ let maycock see that center butt roll. (To the left!)

— Lena Steigs (@PDXIrish) October 20, 2013

https://twitter.com/Subway_Sprout/status/376550819945922560

While the rest of us were braving wintry climes for the bowl game, Nina & Sprout bragged about watching the game on Hawaiian beaches. #HLSrecapMadness shows no mercy for such antics, and this matchup has the potential to make things awkward in the Steigs household for a bit…
