Ah, the rematch of BCS Championship. Which was, of course, the rematch of the Game of the Century. In the end, both turned out to be fairly boring.
Sorry everyone – when the Irish finally made it into the Marquee Matchup last week I was pumped that we finally got away from talking about the SEC. But just like that we are back. I wanted to pretend that Oregon’s visit to Southern Cal was the top matchup of the week, but with the way Kiffykin’s boys are embarrassing themselves (for their talent level, at least) I just couldn’t come to call it the “Marquee Matchup.”
As an aside, if you are a Notre Dame fan you should be cheering for the Trojans this week. Yes, they suck and we hate them and everything about them and yada yada yada. For once we have to look past that, and hope that they not only knock the Ducks out of the title picture but also help ND’s strength of schedule by not falling out of the top 25. Think about this – USC could easily lose to Oregon this weekend, Notre Dame in a few weeks and then Oregon again in the Pac 12 championship to end up with 5 losses on the season. Wow.
Ok, now back to Bama/LSU. If you look on paper, Alabama is tough to bet against in this game. If you have watched both teams play this year, it seems like Alabama is (somehow) much improved from last year and LSU has taken a fairly large step back, particularly with their lack-of-chest quarterback.
Nonetheless, this game is in Baton Rouge and is at night. Les Miles has lost ONE night game at home while winning 36. Maybe it’s the grass he eats, or maybe the opposing teams get a little scared of liquored up crazies in the crowd, but it is hard to choose against LSU at home.
That being said, while I hope I’m wrong, I just don’t see the Mad Hatter pulling this one off. With Alabama QB AJ McCarron firing on all cylinders and Zach Mettenberger not firing on many at all I think the Tide rolls in Baton Rouge (but doesn’t cover the huge 10 point spread). Final Score: Alabama 21, LSU 13
