Week 3 has brought serious movement to the HLS Top 25. While the membership of the top 25 remains largely unchanged (only three teams dropped this week), Stanford’s upset of previously ranked #3 USC and Notre Dame’s drumming of previously ranked #11 Michigan State created quite the domino effect. Only four teams kept their previous week’s rankings, three of which are in the top ten.
Here’s how everything shook out this week:

While I’m not overly surprised that Notre Dame received a nice little homer boost to the top 10, the biggest winner was actually Stanford who jumped up 13 spots to #11. USC was the biggest loser, dropping from their secure spot in the top 5 to barely hanging on to the top 15. Michigan State followed behind dropping 11 spots to land outside the top 20 as they land just above the four new entries to the HLS Top 25: Mississippi State, Nebraska, Boise State, and Northwestern.
We also have our first tie in these rankings (I’m surprised it took this long, honestly) as Boise State and Northwestern round out our rankings.
So how did the rest of the staff vote?
