SC ticket delivered today,,,hooooyeah!
Two calls went our way. I thought Floyd was out and I thought the Air force runner was down on the fumble (knee)
Agree on the first, disagree on the second.
Same here. I dont see how Floyd was ruled IB on that TD, but a BE official in the booth may have given us some home cookin there. Didnt really matter in the end though, ammiright?
I dont recall the fumble your talking about, but was it Blanton who had a close call on an INT that wasnt reviewed? I was surprised they didnt take a longer look there.
Someone just posted the NCAA rulebook on another site and the rule basically says that if the ball, in possession of the player, breaks the plane of the goal line, it doesn’t matter if his foot lands out of bounds, still a touchdown. So, I guess they did get it right. At the time, i was sure they would over turn that.
Unfortunately, it’s rarely that simple in interpreting the rulebook. Very seldom does one rule completely describe an entire scenario. You’re correct that when a player steps on the pylon & the ball is OOB beyond the end line, it is a TD. However, the rule in question is catch/no catch. Rule 2-2-7.3 states that when a player goes airborne to make a catch, posession is gained only when he comes down first in bounds.
Then, you have to find out of the pylon is in bounds.
There were a number of rules changes regarding the pylon this year, but the pylon itself has always been determined to be ‘out of bounds behind the goalline. ‘
This is set out in rule 2-31.
Btw, I am a Tx hs official & our state uses the NCAA rulebook.
after listening to the post game press conference i feel really good about the brian kelly and the direction of the program. no one will be able to convince me that there is any coach out there who can have immediate success at ND, but when i see and hear him talk about program building i have to believe in his record and trust that he will only get better as he moves up in college football and has more weapons at his disposal.
