I needed a pick here that was somewat logical but wouldn’t continue to pull from teams we’d all expect to be in the Top 10, and dragging teams down such that we end up with consensus #78 in the Top 10. Gaming the system a bit? Yep.
But, I don’t think Florida is insane here. It’s insane that they’re ahead of ND in our own poll, but that’s all Poot’s fault. But not insane that they’re a Top 20 team. Why?
Well, they have a guy you might have heard of in Chaz Weiss (yes, that was intentional). He coached in the pros for a while, and after that turned a few ND QBs into world-beaters that destroyed all kinds of records. Now he has his hands on a talented kid named Brantley at UF, and Brantley is surrounded by a bunch of dudes that are faster than anyone Quinn or Clausen had a chance to toss the ball to (outside of one Golden Tate). The offense at UF was a disaster last year and it’s why they lost games. If Chuck Wise can fix up that O, they could be good.
And the UF defense last year was solid. They picked off every 3rd pass (okay maybe not that many but a TON) and held up their end of the bargain. With Muschamp focusing on the D, they shouldn’t regress much, and the talent remains although it is a bit young and raw.
UF is a slight stretch here at 15, but I think they can be a Top 20 team this year if Brantley stays healthy and can regain some confidence, and if the young D can maintain the positive momentum built last year.
However, I’m really hoping they completely suck and finish 3-9.

Nope. 2 Things
1)They could be good and are already ranked.
2)If they get close to 8 wins, the polls will default and rank Florida even if they don’t deserve it. (Same as us)
So if ‘they could be good’ and they are already ranked, and you’re afraid to put your money where your mouth is, you’re admitting that my ‘idiotic’ ranking isn’t at all idiotic. Just because your man-crush sites don’t rank them Top 20, doesn’t mean they can’t be. Suck it up and move on.
