Corwin Brown is Your New DC

January 14, 2007 by The Biscuit

Check this guy out, in college in the 70’s 90s. How can you NOT be pumped about a dude that looked like this in college?

Like most ND fans, and the CFB world, I had no idea who Brown was when the name was leaked around. Seriously, none. After reading the SBT and Chicago Trib articles on the hire, as well as the other blogs, this is what I know about our new Defensive Coordinator.

  • He is 36, and has quickly flowed through the ranks of coaching because of his quick mind, ability to adapt, and due to the fact that he’s been ‘thinking like a coach’ for years now.
  • He was a P.I.M.P. as a player back in the day
  • He has known C-dub for a long time (10+ years), and Charlie tried to hire him into the staff the first time around in some capacity
  • He does NOT think Canadians are communists, unlike some unmentioned bloggers in the CFB world
  • He’s a south-side Chicago guy that coaches with passion and emotion. This should be a good counterbalance to Weis’ more studied and subdued/calculated approach.
  • Seriously, pimp in the late 70’s early 90s.
  • His pedigree is good, he’s been a great asset according to past bosses/colleagues/players, and he’s solid in special teams and DB coaching. The big question is how he’ll handle coordinating an entire defense, and how he’ll call a game. I expect a lot of blitzing, as Corwin will expect his CB’s (especially the new, highly athletic ones that Charlie has landed in the last 2 years), to be able to cover well 1-on-1. ‘Course, I know almost nothing about football, so take that as you will.

In other news, Ron Powlus will be replacing Vaas as QB’s coach. This means he’ll be in charge of keeping the backups warm and up to speed on scout team offenses while Charlie tutors Clausen or the other future starter into ND’s NEXT Heisman contender.

Anyone know anything else interesting? Big, deep, controversial thoughts on it? Hit us up.

Welcome to the good side Corwin. And Go Irish.

He must have been in college a long time if that was taken in the 70s, and he was playing against ND and Reggie Brooks in the early 90s. More “Hammer Time” and less “Afternoon Delight.”

Good hire, Michigan fans have wanted him back at his alma mater for a few years now.

-10 points for going to Michigan.
-10 points for probably being a Sox fan.
