Once again, it’s that time of year for the annual “Shop With a Player” shopping event. As a mom and a Notre Dame fan, this is one of my favorite events that the team participates in. This past Sunday, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football players teamed up with children from the New Prairie school district and took them on a 100 dollar shopping trip.

Ranelle was one of the kids lucky enough to go on Sunday’s shopping spree. She got to shop with Notre Dame safety, Drew Recker, and the two of them had a great time shopping and exploring the store. The day is not only about giving the kids actual gifts and toys, but also about giving them an experience they won’t soon forget.
“It’s a ton of fun every year,” Recker said. “Me and the kids like Ranelle, it’s just what makes it all really worth it and giving back to the community is what being a Notre Dame football player is all about.”
This event is sponsored by Pacqui Kelly and the Kelly Cares foundation, and she greatly appreciates the players being able to find time in their busy schedules to give back to the local community.
“They don’t get that opportunity to go out into the community on a day-to-day basis and volunteer like a lot of traditional N-D students get to do because of their schedules, so this is a pretty unique opportunity, one, but it’s also that opportunity to work with some kids and spend a good two hours with them,” Kelly said.
Such a wonderful way to spread a little holiday cheer to these boys and girls, and pay it forward this holiday season.
Cheers & GO IRISH!
