Welcome back loyal sons and daughters to yet another special presentation of HLS Videos with ya boi, SupermanTDJesus, once again featuring special guest highlight video master @BlakeHHarris.
Once again we reached out to Blake for his blessing to have yet another of his excellent highlight videos featured as part of our 2016 NFL Draft preview series. Dude is not only killing it with his videos, but he’s winning my cold, dead heart over on top of it! Seriously, tell me that Sheldon Day video didn’t have you running through walls! Ah, look at me, going on like a youngster in grade school, blabbering about the cool new kid they I just TOTALLY became besties with, OMG!
…Ahem, on to this week’s video.
The third feature for this week’s focus of Irish stars likely to be taken in the upcoming NFL Draft on Thursday shines upon one of Notre Dame’s recent controversial, yet most productive sons, KeiVarae Russell. Never mind his polarizing attitude, oozing with confidence and bordering on hubris, while still exuding blatant honesty and pure desire to succeed. Never mind his role in the Frozen Five saga, of which he emerged as the only player to complete his punishment and return to the field as a starter. Never mind how hard it was for, like, a year to get his first name exactly right. Never mind the fact that he was recruited as a damn running back. Throughout his Notre Dame career, Russell has been the face of determination and dedication to his goals and dreams. When Russell set out to start as a freshman, he did it. When Russell boasted about being the best corner in College Football, he went out and did what he had to in order to prove it on the field. Whenever Russell wanted something, he went after it. Few Irish players have had the kind of energy Russell possesses, to the point that it often caused media members to constantly make jokes that he backs up his game with masterful conversation, only for those jokes to become factual analysis by his senior year.
Even thought Russell’s Notre Dame career was ended due to injury in the Boston College game at Fenway, much like Jaylon Smith, Russell refuses to let his draft potential be hindered by physical limitations on top of speculation about his character. Russell projects as a 2nd or 3rd round pick according to NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein, and considering everything it took for him to get to this point, that is nothing short of amazing. There is no question that whichever team drafts Russell, they will be immediately better in the secondary.
@BlakeHHarris put together another outstanding video of some of Russell’s greatest defensive plays at Notre Dame, and the truth is, it was fun to take that trip back down memory lane with Russell’s career. You won’t regret giving it a watch.
