Part of a promising defensive line group for the 2016 class, January enrollee Khalid Kareem was 247 Sports’ #9 Composite Rankings strong-side defensive end. At 6’3″ but just 245 pounds, Kareem’s first stop on campus this spring will be the weight room. The Michigan product was recruited heavily by virtually every school in the Midwest, including Michigan, Ohio State, and Michigan State, and was originally a University of Alabama commit before de-committing from the Crimson Tide less than two weeks before verbally pledging to the Irish on October 23, 2015.
Kareem’s physical upside is reason enough to be excited. That the Irish beat out the Skunkbears and Sparty for the #1 DE prospect in Michigan is equally exciting.
The verbal pledge went official on January 10 when Kareem was part of 5 members of the 2016 class to enroll early. But, before Kareem arrived on campus he managed to take home one more high school accolade being named game MVP for the Semper Fidelis All-American Game.
