Perhaps the biggest and most dramatic get for the Irish during in-season recruiting came when 247 Sports’ Composite Rankings #10 outside linebacker, Daelin Hayes, made his announcement that he’d be joining the Irish. Hayes, an Army All-American, missed a good chunk of his senior season with a shoulder separation, but was still one of the most highly coveted players in the nation.
At 6’4″ and 249 pounds, he’s already well built to play either outside linebacker or defensive end. And therein lies so much of Hayes’ intrigue – His final resting spot on the Irish depth chart is still very much in question. Whether he plays at linebacker or defensive end, he stands to likely see early playing time given his size and upside. Hayes enrolled early and is already on campus for the spring semester.
For those that may have forgotten, Hayes was a USC commit who originally committed to the Trojans back in the Summer of 2014. As Troy began to crumble, so too did Hayes’ conviction in his decision. He did not break quickly, but finally opened his recruiting back up before revealing his commitment to the Irish in epic fashion:
Survivor of the Davie, O'Leary, Willingham football eras. Southern. Charming and more often than not the wittiest person at his dinner table (he eats alone quite a bit).
