The “coaching centrifuge” is one of those things that I’m pushing (probably unsuccessfully) much like “#CollegeRefs”, but I honestly can’t think of a description so apt for how fast this year’s carousel spun. In all honesty, I was expecting the major dominoes to fall after all of the conference championships, but college football waits for no one.
While I didn’t have time this week to keep up with every single hire, I hit the big splashes as well as the curious trend of interim head coaches finding themselves promoted to the head gig. While not an official part of the coaching crazy, the situation at LSU was too insane to not talk about as well. Which honestly leads to a question of expectations and how coaches, and their performances, are judged in the current landscape of college football.
As always, I have picks with NDEddieMac to help close out the show. As long as there are games to pick, we are all over it.
The Roundup
In this episode:
- Here’s a handy reference to keep up with all the head coaching firings and recent hires.
- Mark Richt meant a lot to Georgia’s players. This is one hell of an emotional sendoff.
- Joe Schad had a lot of reports from sources about the LSU situation. This morning, after the podcast publish, we now know most of that insanity is actually true.
- A different kind of Heisman controversy: Navy spotted that Keenan Reynolds had been removed from the public Heisman ballot vote which he was (and still is) winning. He is now back on the ballot and the reason that ESPN gave seems rather laughable considering how Reynolds was running away with the public vote.
- “Oil Money Funds College Bowl Game” seems like the most Deep South headline ever, but I’m rather positive no one expected it to be this kind of oil money.
The Booze
To cap off the bitter end to the season (as well as the bitterness that Eddie had during the picks), rolling with IPAs seemed to make a lot of sense here. Adjust your IBU intake accordingly.
Moment of Nix
This week, I want to highlight Ms. Silva’s third grade class. Former Roundup guest, the ND Sports Blogger, Laura Thomas, had a great article about how the class adopted Notre Dame as “their” school of choice and how that passion turned into a class field trip to Stanford. Laura also had a fantastic video recap as well:
? @NDFootball's biggest fans showed up to the ND vs. Stan game.
Shoutout to Ms. Silva's 3rd grade class @alsil23https://t.co/W47qDb5Bux

Because the size of the heart of the Notre Dame family appears to never have a limit, a small fundraiser has been kicked of by @taxbastard. The goal is to get some money to donate winter hats and gloves for these kids as the temperatures start to dip and, if all goes well, have some money left over to give these kids a proper bowl party to cheer on the Irish.
Here are the details to donate:
Come on people matching funds donate hurt me 2 ways I match and 1 donation closer to banishment @alsil23 pic.twitter.com/5oGLMouG0W
— OG Tax (@taxbastard) December 4, 2015
The banishment that Tax refers to is from Twitter. He is willing to disappear from the service for the month. I’m not sure if that’s up anyone’s alley, but if that’s extra motivation for you, who am I to argue! Personally, I think that Tax will match any donation is more than motivation enough to pitch in.
In the spirit of the holidays, help out some young ND fans. No donation is too small.
