The bye week may be upon us, but the Friday Roundup is here to help fill your Notre Dame football void. In fact, this episode is rather ND-heavy. The national headlines that caught my eye were rather sparse/I keep thinking about the Irish too much at the midway-ish point of the season.
Enjoy some general impressions on the team to this point as well as thoughts on what lies ahead for ND, including if playoff chances are even a realistic thing to think about right now.
As always, the episode rounds out with NDEddieMac and our attempt to pick games against the spread. We both actually did really well last week (for once)!
Plus, we have a very special moment of Nix this week. It may have gotten dusty in my office while recording…

Moment of Nix
This week’s moment of Nix is dedicated to Aven. You may remember us promoting a fundraising effort about a year ago to help his parents, who are good friends of ours, defray some of the costs of his treatment.
I thought that I would be able to share good news that Aven was in remission since the summer; however, a couple of weeks ago, he went to the hospital with a fever. Sadly, that hospital trip revealed some further complications and Aven passed away on October 10th.
The “personal matter” that I referenced on last week’s episode was Aven’s funeral.
I wanted to make this the moment of Nix to both honor Aven and to thank everyone for your generosity to a stranger in need. The Notre Dame family, whether they be alumni or subway, never cease to amaze me with their kindness and compassion. Each and every one of you made a huge impact on Aven’s family and your generosity did not go unnoticed.
At the Savin’ Aven benefit, your efforts were recognized on their t-shirt:
That HLS mention isn’t because of me or anyone else on staff. That is a combined effort from all of you and I can’t thank you enough. You helped Aven fight leukemia into remission and aid his family in having another year to spend with him. With that in mind, I will conclude this post with some photos of Aven. I want y’all to see the child that you helped in his battle.
Rest in piece, Aven. The fight is over.
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
