With the advent of the College Football Playoff in 2014, we — the Elvii of college football — have joined together to present our weekly playoff nominations to keep the selection committee honest. We call it the T.C.B. Poll.
Playoff Rankings: Week 5
Each week, the T.C.B. Poll is an aggregate of all our inputs. Scroll down to see individual selections and opinions — this is how we’d like to see the College Football Playoff if we had to narrow the field *right now* to determine a national champion. Images courtesy The Helmet Project.

@TheLSUElvis
- Ohio State – You stay #1 until you lose
- TCU – Can Bob Stoops crush the Frogs next month?
- Michigan State – power
- LSU – Louisiana is home to one of the United States’ most powerful natural resources – Leonard Fournette
@AuburnElvis
- SEC Champion (Texas A&M) – So where’s your Ole Miss, now? I told you the Rebels would falter. But oooooooh no. “This is there year,” you said (you even misspelled it like that when you said it). Now before you slide LSU into this spot, remember this: a team that can throw, can beat Alabama. A team that can only run… not so much. LSU is great at running, but Bama can (and will) take that away. The Aggies, however, will hang 40+ on the Tide in College Station. Fournette may win the Heisman, but he’ll do it DESPITE the Alabama game, not because of it.
- TCU – I no longer think Oklahoma can beat TCU, so I’ve switched my pick here to the Horned Frogs.
- Michigan State – My plan to get the Spartans to lose to Purdue almost worked. But I now see what’s happening in the B1G. This is 2009 for Urban Meyer all over again. He’s going to lose in his conference championship game, and Michigan State will enter the playoffs.
- Gosh, who’s left… um Clemson

I’m sorry. Utah is my pick here.
@HawkeyeElvis
- Ohio State – They just seem to manufacture ways to win each week.
- TCU – Okay Horned Frogs, you have my attention. I think they have the best shot at escaping the regular season unscathed.
- Clemson – Speaking of escaping the rest of the season. Only Florida State is left to present any type of challenge to the Tigers.
- Michigan State – Maybe I’m just being a conference homer. Okay, so I totally am. But are any SEC teams going to make it through the meat grinder with fewer than two losses? I’m keeping Sparty here for now, subject to how they do against the Fighting Harbaugh’s and how LSU Elvis’ Bayou Bengals do this month. I am totally ready to move Les Miles and crew into the Top Four.
@IrishElvis
*whispers* There may not be any good college football teams in 2015…
- Ohio State: Needs a derpy snap to disrupt IU’s last-second
three-point shotend zone scoring attempt. Mmmmmkay. - TCU: Needed a last-second tip drill on fourth down to best Texas Tech last week. Sure, you can keep the #2 spot warm for another week.
- The Runnin’ Utes (presented by My Cousin Vinny) host Gameday and remain undefeated on the season, an increasing rarity these days.
- Texas A&M: This week’s SEC Playoff Team Of The Week. It won’t be long until we have fewer than 4 unbeaten teams…and that’s when this will get interesting.
