As promised in my review of Blue & Gold Illustrated’s season preview magazine, Andrew Owens joins me on the show to talk about the magazine and the upcoming 2015 season. Of course, after we did this interview, Greg Bryant decided to hop over to a JUCO so I had great timing.
So to make up for it, I give a few more thoughts on the Bryant situation, including some updates from Brain Kelly (spoiler alert: he gone).
I also talk about the Shamrock Series uniforms and give my take on Molly’s review of the unis. Finally I conclude with some social media hilarity and a perfect Notre Dame moment for this week’s moment of Nix.
However, after I uploaded this episode, I realized I made a major omission on the show. Our own Father Sorin will have a book published later this month. He will have more to say on this topic in his Good Friday post, but for now, here’s the press release from Corby Books:
FATHER SORIN SAYS:
The Founder Comments on Today’s Notre Dame
Edited by Peter Roehmholdt and Maria Skorcz“What part of eternal life don’t people understand?” After founding the University of Notre Dame in 1842, Father Edward Frederick Sorin, CSC, built the school into the premier Catholic college in the country. He was tough, outspoken, crafty, and indomitable. His abiding faith in The Lord and His Blessed Mother made Notre Dame a reality; it has also permitted him to continue writing, speaking, pontificating, criticizing, and inspiring. These are his quips, thoughts, and contemporary sermons. “In over 200 years of religious study, I have come up with two hard, incontrovertible facts: There is a God, and I’m pretty tight with Him.” EFS CSC
From the book:
-
At Notre Dame, on February 2, a squirrel emerges from a garbage can, and whether or not he sees his shadow, we have 3 more months of winter.
-
I’m told we snagged $2 billion in one haul. If I had that coin in the 1800s, there wouldn’t be just one gold dome, the place would look like the Kremlin.
-
Playing at Notre Dame will be a bewildering experience for a Florida State team, for they wonder what are these “final exams” being talked about
-
I was pretty proud of my first locker room sign “Play like A Frenchman Today.” Had to change that after the whole World War II thing.
-
You will see struggle, effort, celebration, excitement, competition, joy, friendship, tears, disagreement, mischief, loyalty, affection, and love. Because, above all, at Notre Dame, you will see a family.
A big congrats from all at HLS on this book, Padre (and forgive me for my sin of omission in the podcast). Next to founding Notre Dame, this is easily the best thing you’ve done along with sharing your wisdom with us the past few years.

I’m going super-local with Revolver Brewing’s Blood & Honey. By the way, is there anything more Texan than creating a brewing company with the name of a firearm?
