Everett Golson Transferring from Notre Dame

May 7, 2015 by Ryan Ritter

GolsonSSNotre Dame Football fans, hold on to your butts because Everett Golson might be leaving his home under the Dome according to SOURCES:

Update: Of course, as soon as I hit “Publish”, this happens:

Everett Golson said it's “in my best interest to graduate from Notre Dame & transfer to another school effective immediately"

Everett Golson: “I will have no further comment & ask you respect my time as I figure out this life changing moment"

It just so happens that finals are wrapping up this week at Notre Dame which would explain the timing of this news and also giving it some legitimacy. That, plus I’ve seen quite a few other outlets running with this as well.

In other words, some has gone full forest-fire.

I’m actually beyond surprised by this. I felt that, after everything Golson had gone through, he would be determined to make a big impact in his final season at Notre Dame. However, as we’ve talked about before, the scholarship number game is absurdly tight right now and Golson is one of many fifth years taking up valuable scholarships.

So who knows, maybe this is a combination of things between Malik Zaire breathing down his back and the tight scholarship numbers. Or perhaps Kelly had a frank talk about the role Golson would have and it wasn’t quite what he wanted. Who knows.

Either way, it’s never a boring offseason for Notre Dame per usual.

Update #2 [2:22pm ET]: A statement from Brian Kelly has been released
