You may have noticed that the Friday Roundup, at least in the text edition, has been sporadic as of late. It was only a matter of time, I suppose, before the joys of impending fatherhood would catch up with me. Somewhere, MQ is laughing and wondering if I’ve quit HLS for good.
Well, that’s not quite happening. The truth of the matter is that I’ve been doing double the work to prepare both my radio show and this weekly post, even though I have tried to keep them as similar as possible as of late. Usually, I am able to space this out throughout the week, however, my day job has decided to pile on (because of course it would right now) so much of the time that I usually have to gather stories and write is gone.
So yesterday, I had a chat with Bayou Irish to gauge his thoughts on perhaps letting this feature go audio-only for the foreseeable future and he offered to take the reigns of the Roundup for now.
Or, as he called it, HLSMLA.
Anyways, until it looks like things calm down, Bayou will take the written Roundup (starting next week) and I’ll continue to post my show after it concludes every Friday evening. Once things calm down a bit, I’ll get back into the swing of regular Friday publishing. I’ll still be writing when I can and, more importantly, finish the long laundry list of things I need to do for the site before Baby Tex arrives and all my desire to code goes out the window.
Until then, make sure to tune in to my show or catch the podcast when it goes live here and enjoy Bayou’s musings for a bit.
The Roundup
On leave…
The Booze
Oh, I’m not leaving without this, especially since I need to consume quite a bit right now. And not just because the “holy crap, I’m going to be a dad in a couple of months” line of thinking has set in. The Texas Rangers are having a roller-coaster, injury-filled season, and the Mavericks are currently in the weirdest bit of drama since Lamar Odom graced DFW with his half-assed presence.
So yeah, booze is happening.
With the turning of spring, the summer seasonals seem to have made an early appearance around here and that means one of my favorites, Shiner Ruby Redbird, is available for (mass) consumption. For those outside the ever-growing distribution of Shiner, I’m not completely familiar with too many grapefruit inspired brews; however, I did come across a Leinenkugel Grapefruit Shandy which could serve as a substitute, albeit a much sweeter one.

Moons
Let me put in an endorsement for Abita’s Grapefruit IPA. Lovely citrus notes with a still hoppy IPA finish. You may now resume your Friday.
