So can we, as Notre Dame fans, really manage to drum up enough hate for a mediocre B1G team? You bet.
Quite a few personalities in the college football media make it all too easy. Northwestern touts quite a few alumni that you’ve likely seen on national outlets and networks. There’s also a good chance they’ve written, said, or tweeted something that’s driven you up the wall.
Two words: Darren. Rovell.
Now, to be fair, it isn’t like a Northwestern diploma automatically makes a writer insufferable. However, if Northwestern manages to sniff some success, it definitely happens. And if the unthinkable happens and they land a visit from College GameDay and have a primetime game against Ohio State, the hype can continue (to be fair again, that isn’t written by a NU grad).
They will also promptly blow a ten point lead and then lose by the same margin.
Fast forward a year later and it’s pretty clear that the shine is off the Fitzgerald era. He’s blamed bloggers for a loss, fans are frustrated that his opponents know what’s coming, Groupon has sold tickets to their games, and fans are reduced to hoping for the impossible this Saturday simply because it’ll be funny.
Should we have pity on these poor souls? Hell no. Beat them by 50.
The Roundup
Shameless self-promotion! The audio version of this post will air at 6:00pm tonight on KVCE AM 1160 in the DFW area. If you are outside of the broadcast range, you can stream the broadcast through the KVCE website.
This is one of the best breakdowns of ND/ASU. One Foot Down did a hell of a job with explaining how the turnovers happened.
Florida State and the Tallahassee PD continue to amaze. First, Jameis Winston’s hearing got predictably delayed and then, this afternoon, the New York Times found yet another incident that the TPD simply let go. Related:

Even after an upset, Auburn helped out an Aggie. After losing his class ring at the game, Aggie grad, Layton Miller, had his class ring found and returned to him.
And now your moment of Nix… featuring the most SEC thing ever.
The Booze
Many of you fine folks in the Chicago area can feast on a multitude of craft beers in “honor” of our opponent. For the rest of us, how about some Purple Rain? Yes, I realize Prince is from Minnesota, just roll with it. It’s a drink that’s probably been spilled on you in the ‘Backer before (I’ve had at least three come crashing down on me), so it gets a ND connection as well:
- 1 1/2 oz gin
- Cranberry juice
- 1 splash Blue Curacao liqueur
- 1 splash sweet and sour mix
- 1 splash soda water
Place all ingredients into a highball glass with ice and stir, adding more Blue Curacao if needed for the purple color.
