Brick Helmet Stickers

I’ve spent some time trying to come up with something half-way clever (my usual literary standard) in writing these comments and handing out the stickers. The regulars here at HLS do such a good job at team, opponent, and game analysis that by comparison my comments come across as caveman-speak – “Team good….BK purple…why ball shape funny? Everett NO!!!! Whiskey.”

Come to think of it, that’s still a lot better than Tom Hammond’s usual effort.

Anyway, what a game. Not much more can be said. I’m so damn proud of the coaches and team, and the way they represent this university and fanbase. Consider asshats like Jameis Winston and corrupt programs like North Carolina. Can you understand the pressure to field an honorable team every year when so many programs do everything they can to skirt the rules? While it starts at the top of the Notre Dame administration and down through the athletic department, those are empty words unless Coach Kelly and his staff put those words and promises into action. In families’ living rooms during recuriting, team meetings, the practice field and during games, Notre Dame does more than develop football players — we develop men of character. And Jimbo Fisher can mouth off about character all he wants but he doesn’t know what the hell he’s talking about.

Now for the Twitterati, I have to tell you that this gets harder and harder every week. Some new guy named @SarcasticDomer said it best:

Have a sticker, I guess, for some well-timed and spot on bitching. I don’t know how @IrishElvis keeps up with favoriting the tweets, and I don’t know how y’all focus on the game AND Twitter. But you do, so here are some well earned #BrickHelmetStickers from the Florida State game.

• @OptimisticDomer – I don’t even want to give him another sticker because it only encourages his behavior.
• @BryonySigrun – now that I can retweet her you’re going to start seeing a lot more of her nasty side. Or you could just follow her.

From the earliest days of #HLSrecap, I’ve been accused of numerous things — focusing on some tweets from @HLS_NDtex while leaving others out. I’ve also spent considerable energy keeping #HLSrecap at a PG-13 reading level. But all my efforts are for naught, because real-life circumstances dictate that I must step away from my duties as editor for the next couple weeks.
