Friday Roundup: The “Stress Relief” Edition

April 4, 2014 by Ryan Ritter

Friday RoundupSo the past few months have been an absolute whirlwind of crazy. From January to now, my life has been filled with constant late nights at work, wedding planning, and, of course, trying to squeeze out additional free time for HLS.

This week, however, has been an absolute Godsend.

I’m currently writing this post from the Palazzo in Las Vegas after being a part of the most ridiculously awesome craps game I’ve ever been a part of. While this trip certainly wasn’t an attempt at gambling glory, being able to come out here for a trade show has been an excellent respite from my usual daily grind.

Not spending all day being chained to my desk or in a lab, is a welcome change in itself. Being able to actually spend time having dinner/drinks/cigars with my coworkers (even if we can’t stop talking shop) has been fantastic as well. Far too often I have to disappear into my office and not really have the time to talk to anyone on a daily basis.

And yes, even pulling a prank this week at HLS was a welcome change of pace. I may have caused some hair-pulling and freakouts from some of you, but, believe me, I needed the laughter.

I know I’ll be returning to the hectic rat race sooner than I want to. It’s yet more evidence for me that growing up and actually being an adult was a terrible decision.

But, hey, if I get some weeks like this every now and then, it’s all worth it.

The Roundup

I suppose this was only a matter of time. The feds have opened an investigation against Florida State in their handling of the Jameis Winston case.

In much less serious FSU news, their new logo was leaked yesterday. They are also apparently making some tweaks to their helmet as well.

How much does it cost to find a head coach? If you’re Texas, the answer is about $267k.

And now your moment of Nix… Chris Petersen is starting his tenure at Washington with a little April Fool’s gag of his own.

The Booze

I’m in Vegas, so their is no short limit of it and it’s almost impossible to pick one thing since I’ve been all over the map this week going from beer, bourbon, wine, and even white Russians.

If I’m at a table for a long haul though (and I likely will be tonight after the trade show closes), I’m rolling with a good ‘ol Crown & 7.
