Your Wednesday just got upgraded. Let’s ride.
According to @andrewwinn, we got back down to a more manageable size with the #HLSrecap — 360 tweets from 120+ contributors, with 17 first-timers making the cut this week. We now have over 350 unique contributors to at least one #HLSrecap this year.
As you know, each week we present the following highly-coveted (and yet totally arbitrary) accolades:
- Brick Helmet Stickers
- #HLSrecap MVP
- #HLSrecap Top 25
Here now is our Athletic Director, @FakeSwarbrick, who still has 4 years of eligibility remaining and may see the field at linebacker this Saturday.
Brick Helmet Stickers
Raise your hand if you predicted a shootout with Navy. Go on. Get ’em up there. No one? Really?
Well you’re all full of crap – me included. Any long suffering Notre Dame fan should know that this team can (and usually does) drive you to drink on a routine basis. We should not ever be surprised my friends. So what did we learn from all of this?
I for one learned that me drinking gin can, in fact, influence the play of Tommy Rees. Who knew?
I also learned that, like me, many of you enjoy seeing the team play football the way God intended – on natural grass. Mother Nature gave us some excitement that those poor souls on field turf will never enjoy. Field turf. Can you imagine? Good Lord…..anyway.
I also learned that with the way this defense is playing, Big Lou should probably dress for every game. Just in case.
And I’m personally learning that it is tough yet enjoyable to monitor Twitter during these games and consistently pick out those who tweet like champions for four quarters. Although it’s entirely arbitrary, let me tell you how I do this. Unlike @IrishElvis and #HLSRecap, where I assume he stars tweets as he goes along, I watch everyone. Once I see someone is having a good game (or a good meltdown, depending on the circumstances) I write their name down and then review ALL of their tweets later.
Nearly everyone I follow on Twitter is a good follow, but I’m looking for more than commentary on the game. “Another damn third and long!!!” is not going to cut it. The people who receive stickers are FUNNY. And CLEVER. And INFORMED. And making GREAT COMMENTS on the game and on other tweeters. They get my attention because they are tweeting things other people are not.
So you might start to see a trend with some of these names but rest assured they are working it. I’m not playing favorites here. These people all tweet like champions.
@SupermanTDJesus – total respect. He planned for this game and worked in every possible Navy joke you could think of, plus a few that occurred to no one else. Mad props. Do we still say “mad props”?
@4LeafCloverGirl – the original #BrickGirl actually tweeted for a change! I guess she wasn’t at the game, or perhaps got a good cell signal. Either way, Her Loyal Sons resident author and hottie has been missed and provided four steady, quality quarters of work. Because she travels so much she doesn’t tweet during games like she used to, so when she does it’s worth following.
@Dapremonster – the only other person to experience the same tech issues as me during the game. He can attest to the high level of suck involved in following the game delayed on the radio along with real-time twitter. But he hung in there, reacquired target lock, and was MURDERING my timeline by the end of the game. Murdering I tell you.
@MrMayhem75 – one picture. One glorious picture. That is all.
@TheSubwayDomer – no huge surprise here. But I felt like SD needed recognition because @IrishElvis said he tries to keep profanity OUT of #HLSRecap. Good idea, but that means a lot of SD’s quality material will never make the cut.
@TheIrishWon – one of my recent favorite new follows. Very clever and insightful, and he engages with people throughout the game.
#HLSrecap MVP

We still need a #HLSrecap MVP sponsor. Please inquire at the whiskey distillery of your choice.
Now, onto the quantitative measures. This is just as it sounds — whoever has the most number of tweets that make the final cut will be awarded the #HLSrecap MVP Award.
Your winner for the Navy game: @Dcare24 with 18 tweets.
Your past 2013 #HLSrecap MVPs are as follows:

#HLSrecap Top 25
As a reminder, @andrewwinn awards one point for each tweet that makes it in; 1/2 point if someone else retweets/quotes/modifies your tweet and it’s included. The Twitter Ranking Of Leprechaun Legion (T.R.O.L.L.) Scale is awarded arbitrarily.
No new faces in the Top 10, but eight points separate #16 and #25. Welcome to the Top 25, @Dcare24, @MrMayhem75, @lluckoftheirish.
