As Notre Dame hasn’t played BYU since 2005 (in a game some refer to as the “Brady Quinn Might Throw Nearly As Many Touchdown Passes in this Game as in the NFL” game), I thought it may be helpful to do a further review of the video evidence from some of ND’s past matchups with the Cougars to jog everyone’s memory. First, the history of the 6-game series:
Previous BYU Games
[table “” not found /]1994
BYU was a 15-point underdog in South Bend. And won. The Irish dropped to 4-3 in what was a disappointing 1994 season. This year, the Cougars come into town as a 14-point underdog. Let’s not have a repeat, huh guys?
2004
Yikes, Brady Quinn. The Irish go to Provo to open the 2004 campaign and the Willingham era begins its impossible to reverse downward spiral, where hopes and dreams were popped like balloons and things like ‘fun’ and ‘smiles’ were forbidden. The lyrics to the background music, “Well somebody told me that you had a boyfriend that looks like a girlfriend that I had in February of last year” seem especially fitting.
2005
When BYU came to South Bend in 2005, Charlie Weis had a newly minted contract after a loss to USC and Notre Dame was finally returning to glory. Wooooo. Amazingly, this was ND’s first home win of the season. Brady Quinn, Mo Stovall and the Shark decided they were going to play a friendly backyard game of “Monkey in the Middle” and just giggle while they casually threw the ball over the heads of their short friends (also known as the BYU secondary).
This year, in someone’s mom’s basement
And in my favorite video, this dude posted video of the entirety of his ND/BYU matchup from his NCAA Football 13 dynasty. This is why I love YouTube – it gives every day folks like you and me the chance to post videos, whether good or (as in this case) incredibly boring and useless, for other people to see. While I know you’re all dying to watch the 45 minutes of gameplay, I’m going to spoil it for you: our friend EastCoast360 and his #10 ranked Irish win 34-24. Good job, kid.
