You Like to Watch: Cave, Eifert, Jones, Lewis-Moore, Martin, Te’o and Wood Named

July 20, 2012 by Bayou Irish

Six Irish players have been named to official, preseason award watch lists. They are: 1.) Braxton Cave (Lombardi, Outland, Rimington); 2.) Tyler Eifert (Lombardi, Mackey, Maxwell, Rimington); 3.) TJ Jones (Biletnikoff); 4.) Kapron Lewis-Moore (Nagurski); 4.) Zack Martin (Lombardi, Outland); 5.) Manti Te’o (Bednarik, Butkus, Lombardi, Nagurski); and 6.) Cierre Wood (Maxwell, Walker). Louis Nix III was named winner of the Louis Nix III award for the 21st straight year. Happy Birthday soon, big fella.

The Maxwell Award goes to the nation’s most outstanding player. The Bednarik Award goes to the best defensive player. The Butkus Award goes to the best linebacker. The Lombardi Award goes to best lineman, including tight end. The Nagurski Award goes to the nation’s best defensive player. The Biletnikoff Award goes to the nation’s top wide receiver. The Outland Trophy is awarded to the best interior lineman in the country. The Rimington Trophy goes to the top center. Finally, the Walker Award goes to the best running back.

Congratulations, guys. Now, get out there, get those awards and Go Irish!

42 more days, people.

Although these are individual awards, annually they are won by individuals on teams that excel – eg: Top Ten.
