After a year where sports such as Football (resurging with a great finish to beat Miami in the Sun Bowl), Men’s Hoops (great regular season, COY, BE Player of the Year), Women’s Hoops (National Runner-Up), Women’s Soccer (Nat’l Champs), Fencing (Nat’l Champs) and many others have had great success in competition, it’s great to see that ND is also leading the way in academics.
ND comes in at #1 among D1 schools for APR performance this year, with 17 sports honored for multi-year achievement. 9 Men’s Sports, including baseball, hoops, cross country, golf, ice hockey, lax, tennis, and indoor/outdoor track and field were honored. 8 Women’s sports, including cross country, golf, soccer, rowing, softball, tennis, and indoor/outdoor track and field were also honored for their stellar graduation rates and academic performance.
Duke had the second highest # of programs honored at 15, and they were the only school even close. BC was #3 with only 11, and Vanderbilt #4 with 10. The only Football Power school to make the Top 10 was Texas, who was tied for 5th with just 9 programs honored.
(You know who you don’t see on this list? Michigan. The same Skunkbears that regularly claim academic superiority. Skunkbears ain’t got it).
Anyway, ND remains the top destination in the country for high quality athletics AND high quality academics. I can understand athletes going to other schools for a large number of reasons. But if top players are really focused on on-field and off-field success, no one tops ND. We’re #1!
