There’s a Purdue blog. Yeah. I know. I didn’t think it likely either, but we discovered them when they linked to one of our posts because they thought us obnoxious/over-confident/something, something… I wasn’t really paying attention.
Anyway, they’ve posted some thoughts on yesterday’s game, and I think they’re worth linking here. It’s interesting to see it from their perspective. So here it is.
I’m still letting my thoughts age.

Interesting. They’ve come down to earth already. They predicted a 35-31 Purdue victory only a week or so ago based on nothing but wishful thinking. Now, after one loss, they are already singing the blues, hoping for a 6 win season. The best comment I saw on a Purdue blog yesterday was something about how 80 percent of ND’s greatest moments reel is in black and white film. Purdue’s greatest moment–oh well we’ll have to keep waiting for that one.

re Purdue’s greatest moment, to quote Arrested Development, “Footage not found”.
They have been to the Rose Bowl less times (2) than we’ve won the NC (11+). Pointing out these glaring disparities in program prestige is not mean or arrogant, it’s simply stating fact.

I do agree completely with one thing: The goalline fumble was a HUGE momentum shifter. That’s why I’m not concerned at all with yesterday. We proved that Kelly’s system WILL work with our players, both lines looked really good at times, and Crist will be the real deal. If not for that play, PU gets the ball on their 20 or so(not our 3), no safety, no short field resulting from the safety, and no momentum resulting from safety.
Now, I would like to see us overcome that scenario, but this was the first game of the year. Everything cant go right first out of the gate.

Thought Purdue showed they are a good team. Notre Dame definitely needs to continue improvement. We will beat the skunks!
Cannot say much good about the Purdue student fans that I encountered during the game. On three different occasions, at different near campus establishments, I witnessed Purdue students grabbing ND fan’s seats and taking the seat over to their group. In one case, I told one the PU student who had grabbed a ND fan’s seat “he should give it back, after all he was in enemy country” and it was obvious the ND fan and several in his group were pissed. In a manner that seemed to indicate the PU student (ugly black PU shirt) had issues, he just said that he had no intention of giving the seat back. I then talked to the ND fan explaining the PU guy acted goofy/stupid and it was not worth causing problems.
Too bad when ND is on the road, the opposing fan base is not as decent.

I agree with the writer, he should try to not think about ND until next years game. That game will be a nightmare for them.

Agree. It is only going to get worse for them as long as BK is around. He may not be the second coming of Leahy, but I’m confident he will consistently beat Purdue caliber teams. Must be tough being a Purdue fan. Unless they luck into their own Bobbie Bowden or Joe Pa, they will likely always be average at best.
Average Boiler
SDI — almost identical records between your “storied” program and “average” Purdue over the last 13 years.
Reality is fun!

Of course, ND’s fan base calls the last 13 years our winter of discontent, and you Purdue fans call the same time period your Renaissance.
Standards are fun!
